Hudson Valley Votes mourns the loss of the great Jack Dejohnette. We are so honored and grateful to have called Jack our friend and collaborator. Jack was an international legend of enormous artistic significance and he shared his talents with his local community as well. We will miss his spirit, his melodies, rhythms and his grace. ✨

So many of us in the Hudson Valley woke up grateful to live here today. Our country has taken a horrifyingly dark turn, but our local community showed up and made it clear that we believe in Democracy. Ulster, Dutchess and Columbia counties all voted for Kamala Harris. We helped pass Prop 1 and made New York State a safer place to live for all. We flipped a crucial congressional district and preserved another.

We are so proud of all of the candidates we worked with this year. Congressman Pat Ryan, Congressman elect Josh Riley, State NYS Sentaor Michelle Hinchey, NYS Senator James Skoufis, NYS Assemblywoman Sarahana Shrestha- congratulations on your hard fought victories- we have your backs and will keep fighting along side you every step of the way. Yvette Valdes-Smith and Janet Tweed- thank you for stepping up and giving it your all- it was an honor to shine a light on your work. NYS Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado- thank you for using your voice to inspire us to keep going.

Thank you Hometown Project for joining forces with us this year and bringing our work into a sharper focus. Thank you Resistance Revival Chorus for being the transcendent soundtrack to our mission.

And thank you Hudson Valley πŸ—½πŸ’™πŸŒŠ

Our reproductive rights and health are at stake in this election. 100% of net proceeds from our concert/rally will benefit Planned Parenthood of Greater New York.

We are also drawing attention to Prop 1, the New York Equal Rights Amendment, which will be on our ballots this November, so please remember TO TURN YOUR BALLOT OVER AND VOTE YES! The Planned Parenthood of Greater New York Action Fund has been working to increase awareness of the statewide ballot proposal which would enshrine abortion rights into state law.

From :
"With elections on everyone's minds, we urge all New Yorkers to learn more and plan to vote in support of the New York Equal Rights Amendment (Prop 1) this fall... We'd love for you to be part of this history-in-the-making, inspiring as many of our community members as possible to vote YES on the NY ERA and enshrine permanent protections, like abortion, in our constitution."

We are so happy that Rock Academy is back with us again this year! Voted Best Music School in the Hudson Valley by the Chronogram readers poll for many years running, Rock Academy is a performance based music school run by Jason Bowman who brings more than 30 years experience as a professional musician and teacher to the table. Our staff are all working, professional musicians dedicated to keeping the spirit of Woodstock alive. Our entire school is dedicated to getting kids playing music onstage, with a deep drive to getting everything possible out of the experience.

Rock Academy is a year round, tuition-based program. Students take a weekly 45 minute lesson in their primary instrument and attend weekly rehearsals when in season (roughly 30 weeks per year) in preparation for our seasonal shows.

Shows are chosen for their artistic and educational merit and a variety is always offered to best represent the incredible wealth of artists we aspire to learn from. We stage 5 productions in the Spring, Fall and Summer semesters, with rehearsals for these shows occurring on both week days and weekends to accommodate the schedules of our students.

From her early years investigating hate groups, to overseeing the most accessible and secure election in Michigan history, Jocelyn Benson has defied preconceived notions of what is possible in public service. That is particularly true when it comes to protecting election results from β€˜deniers’ and defending American democracy.

Committed to the nonpartisan operation of the Secretary of State’s Office, Jocelyn has transformed its operations to provide faster and more convenient service for every Michigander. She has done this while ensuring that elections are free, fair, secure and accurate, and fighting to protect voting rights for all Michigan voters whether Republicans, Democrats or Independents.

Jocelyn is the daughter of two special education teachers and was raised in a working class family. She began redefining norms and challenging expectations as a student at Wellesley College, where she was the first college student to be elected to the governing body for the town of Wellesley, Massachusetts. After college she moved to Alabama to investigate undercover domestic terrorist cells that had emerged following the Oklahoma City bombing. That work led her to the United Kingdom where as a Marshall Scholar at Oxford University, she studied the international links of modern, white supremacist and neo-Nazi movements.

At 35 she was appointed dean of Wayne State University Law School, becoming the youngest woman to lead an accredited top 100 law school in United States history. Benson later led a coalition of all major sports leagues, including the NFL, NBA and MLB, to empower athletes to advance equality and improve race relations in America. In 2015 she became one of the youngest women to be inducted into the Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame, second in age only to Serena Williams who was born in Saginaw.

A long-distance runner, Benson has completed 25 marathons and is one of a handful of women to have completed the Boston Marathon while more than eight months pregnant.

GET YOUR TICKETS NOW, $26 and up at the UPAC box office, or online at the link in our bio. DOORS 6:30, SHOWTIME 7:30 SHARP! πŸ—½πŸŒŠ
