Thank you to Dr. Yasin Bhanji of Georgia Urology and Dennis Burnette with Blue Ribbon Cherokee for presenting to us today! What a wealth of information! Mr. Burnette spoke about Blue Ribbon Cherokee, a local organization that focuses on helping men stay ahead of prostate cancer through basic education and early screening. Dr. Bhanji is one of only a few urologists doing Holmium Laser Enucleation of the prostate, which requires less hospital time among other things! Dr. Bhanji reminded men and women alike to pay attention to what's happening with their urologic system and to seek medical attention with things just don't seem right!

As we get going full throttle into Basic Education and Literacy Month (aka September), let's look back at August when our illustrious Secretary and Membership Chair (yes, two roles!) Brett Hellenga shared with the Club a membership minute for Membership and New Club Development Month. The membership minute addressed learning opportunities like Rotary Leadership Institute. Brett focused on several key components for Rotarians to keep in mind:
1️⃣ The Power of an Invitation - invite someone to the meeting who you think would enjoy Rotary and our company!
2️⃣ Why Membership Matters Right Now: New members bring fresh energy, new skills and new connections. They bring more ideas of ways we can engage with our community and strengthen the Club for years to come.
3️⃣ Engagement is the Engine: We're the "Small but Mighty" Club. We recognize membership isn't all about numbers. It's about engaging -- engaging with a new member, engaging in a project, and engaging with someone you haven't seen in a while. Engagement builds momentum, and momentum builds Rotary.
4️⃣ Celebrating Our Members: Rotary works because of the members. Time, ideas, generosity -- they are what makes the Club's projects possible! We are thankful for our small, but mighty club engaging and connecting with our community to bring more light and positivity by helping others!

Tannish Welch joined us last Thursday to share about the Charlie Ferguson Community Center and what it provides to the Pearidge Community and beyound. Tannish grew up in Pearidge and does so much to give back to the community that helped raise here. Pearidge has such a rich history, and Tannish is making sure that history is shared! Thank you, Tannish, for joining us!

We were fortunate to have Tiffany Collins with us just two weeks ago to provide an update on Happy Tears Feline Foundation, a recipient of the Towne Lake Rotary Foundation annual fundraising efforts! 11Alive's Kaitlyn Ross highlighted the work she's doing for some of the tiniest furbabies while also working her full-time corporate job!

She keeps finding room for one more ❤️‍🩹

Tiffany Collins started Happy Tears Feline Foundation in Cherokee County after seeing cats and kittens who were abandoned, sick, injured or simply had nowhere else to go.

What started in her home has grown into a rescue with cats depending on her for food, medical care, foster placement and a chance at finding a family.

And the stories coming out of this rescue say a lot about Tiffany.

She works a full-time corporate job, then spends her time helping fosters, caring for cats and figuring out how to help the next animal that needs her.

A cat gets returned to a shelter? She takes it in.

There’s no space? Somehow, she finds some.

A foster needs help? She’s there.

Recently, a woman in Cherokee County was facing a veterinary bill she couldn’t afford and was considering surrendering her pet.

Tiffany stepped in and paid the vet bill so the woman could keep her animal.

That is the part of rescue people don’t always see.

It’s the sick kittens. The veterinary bills. The animals who come back after being adopted. The late nights and constant emergencies.

And this year has brought an especially overwhelming number of kittens, many of them needing medical care.

Happy Tears Feline Foundation is now looking for more people to join the effort: foster families, adopters, volunteers and community members who can help these cats get the care they need.

Because Tiffany has spent so much of her own life making sure these animals have somewhere to go.

And somehow, she keeps finding room for one more. 🐾❤️
