In an incoherent speech to Wisconsin farmers that was supposed to be about the economy, he went off the rails. All the while he remained seated, not able to stand long enough to blather his lies and grievances.

"But as, as they say in the farming business, we had to take care of business. Look at this guy over here. I don't know who the hell he is, but he is one hell of a specimen, I can tell you. Oh, it's true. This guy is one hell of a physical specimen. I thought I was big until I met you, Joe, you know? You're fantastic. It's what I like."

In his May 22 commentary, James R. Poplar seems to suggest that critics of President Trump suffer from "Trump Derangement Syndrome" (TDS); that the revulsion they feel for the president stems solely from what Mr. Poplar himself calls Trump's "narcissistic personality, rudeness and divisive personality;" and that such revulsion has rendered them unfit to assess his policies.

This is pure gaslighting, and after some 10 years of hearing Trump supporters use TDS in defense of the president, I am tired of it.

In fact, there are many American citizens who, based on legal, moral, and common sense concerns, vehemently oppose the directives of the president while disregarding his theatrical "personality."

Old, too, is the misuse of the term "commander-in-chief." American citizens not enlisted in the armed forces of the United States clearly are not part of the hierarchy of command overseen by the president.

President Trump is certainly not my commander-in-chief, nor "our" commander-in-chief, but the commander-in -chief of military personnel.

Of course, the term has great charm not only for those who pine for a return to the warrior ethos of ancient Sparta or of the Crusades, but also for those who endorse the authoritarian, extremist, and increasingly irresponsible Trump administration.

Public pressure worked. Albania's anti-corruption prosecutors didn’t just open an investigation into the deal—they froze the bank accounts of the company behind it.

The scale of this is hard to overstate. Trump’s own son-in-law—the man supposedly brokering peace in the Middle East—now has a foreign government freezing the assets behind his resort, forced into the open by people an ocean away. -Scott Dworkin

Let's start the week with this, from 1935:

“The Senator was vulgar, almost illiterate, a public liar easily detected, and in his "ideas" almost idiotic, while his celebrated piety was that of a traveling salesman for church furniture, and his yet more celebrated humor the sly cynicism of a country store.

Certainly there was nothing exhilarating in the actual words of his speeches, nor anything convincing in his philosophy. His political platforms were only wings of a windmill.” ― Sinclair Lewis, It Can't Happen Here

At least 97 of the more than 1,500 Jan 6 Capitol rioters who were granted clemency by Trump have been arrested for, charged with, or convicted of crimes separate from J6 since their participation in the J6 riot.

Almost 1 in 16 insurrectionists subject to the president’s clemency order has been arrested for and charged with—and most convicted of—other crimes, at least some of which were actively enabled by the clemency actions.

The alleged crimes since Jan. 6, 2021 run from relatively property damage, possession of drug paraphernalia, and trespassing to serious felonies like grand larceny, stalking, planning to assassinate law enforcement officials and prominent politicians, and defrauding govt agencies.

One J6 pardonee was convicted in Feb. 2026 of child molestation and sentenced to life in prison. Another was convicted in 2025 of reckless homicide.

At least 14 have been charged with s*x crimes or crimes related to child s*xual abuse material, and at least 6 have faced domestic violence charges. Others have faced charges for physical assaults, illegal fi****ms possession, or other violent crimes. At least 20 have been charged with DUI or public intoxication. -Lawfare

“Today, different European beaches are stormed by different dangerous ideologies.” Apparently our nitwit Secretary of War(drobe) thinks a D-Day commemoration is an appropriate time to push his far right ideology in Europe. -U.S. Senator Tim Kaine
