Spread the word and wish for spring

Spread the word and wish for spring

Warmer weather is on the way and Spring Break is just around the corner!

As more people head outside and e-bikes and other electric devices become more popular, we wanted to share some important safety information.

The Illinois Secretary of State has launched a statewide e-bike and micro mobility safety initiative aimed at keeping riders, pedestrians, and drivers safe. This effort focuses on education, awareness, and making sure everyone understands the rules of the road as these devices become more common across Illinois.

As part of the initiative, a new public education website — www.ilsos.gov/oneroad
— serves as a central hub for micro mobility safety, rules, and policy updates. The site explains what micro mobility is, identifies common devices, and outlines how they are regulated. A dedicated “Know the Rules” section breaks existing laws down into clear, easy-to-understand guidance for riders, parents, drivers, educators, and local officials.

📖 Learn more about the statewide initiative here:
https://www.ilsos.gov/news/2026/january-29-2026-making-illinois-streets-safer-protecting-lives-giannoulias-unveils-statewide-e-bike-safety-initiative.html

Let’s all enjoy the spring weather safely and responsibly — whether you’re riding, walking, or driving.

Once again, McHenry County College is inviting the public to its annual People in Need Forum to learn about the abundance of resources and support available for county residents needing assistance.

The forum takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, at the college, 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake.

Exhibitors and speakers will cover issues such as immigration, senior care, caregiver resources, food insecurity, mental health, employment and more. Besides helping people seeking assistance, the forum is an excellent resource and networking opportunity for social service agencies, faith-based organizations, civic groups, law enforcement, elected officials and others.

Connect with representatives from several local service organizations at the library on the 2nd Wednesday of the Month, 1:30-3:30pm. During your visit, grab a stamp card and have your card stamped at each organization's booth to reveal the word of the day. Then, fill out your information and submit your card to be entered to win a $25 Amazon gift card!

The Community Hub will be held in the Older Adult area of the library (near the piano) in January through March and will expand in size to include booths in the upper level of the library in April through December.

🌍 International Human Rights Day

Today, we join communities around the world in recognizing International Human Rights Day—a reminder that every person deserves dignity, safety, and equal treatment.

In times like these, understanding our rights is more important than ever. Knowing our rights helps us protect ourselves, support our neighbors, and stand with those in marginalized and vulnerable communities who too often bear the weight of injustice.

Let’s commit to learning, listening, and advocating. A safer, more just community begins with each of us.

Let’s keep this going. If you are able, please support our local agencies taking care of our neighbors. Woodstock Public...

Now available at the library - a bicycle repair station! The station includes tools needed for repairing bicycles - including an air pump. The holding bar at the top allows bicyclists to lift the bike to do the repairs. Not sure how to use all the tools? https://www.bikeride.com/guide/ has video tutorials on many common repairs.

Wonderful news for our city and our residents!

Big news for Woodstock!
The State of Illinois has awarded the City of Woodstock a $10 million transportation grant, the maximum amount available through a new infrastructure program.

This funding will go directly toward Woodstock’s contribution to the Route 47 Widening Project, a major improvement that will enhance safety, reduce congestion, and support future growth along one of our community’s most important corridors.

We’re proud that Woodstock was one of the projects selected and we’re grateful to Governor Pritzker, IDOT, and the Illinois Municipal League for recognizing our city’s vision and investment in the future.
