On August 1st, 2024 the Shenandoah County Planning Commission will host a public hearing on the newly proposed comprehensive plan after five years of resident driven public engagement and visionary thinking.

"For the past five years, we took a different path than most communities. We didn’t start writing right away, instead we listened. This document, Shenandoah 2045, grew from what we heard. It’s not just any plan, it’s the heart of our community, put to paper after years of conversations in a resident driven process. "

"For five years the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) sought input from County residents by multiple avenues for public outreach... Throughout public outreach, Shenandoah County residents consistently stated they valued the open, rural and agricultural character of the County and wanted the County to remain so in the future... The Vision Statement for Shenandoah 2045 describes Shenandoah County as a unique place to live and work with a great quality of life which promotes appropriate growth but limits growth (by size and location) so that agriculture and open, green spaces remain predominant. The County will be a responsible steward of its special character and natural resources so we may continue to live and grow in a collaborative and friendly community that is healthy and vibrant. It is with this Vision Statement and the considerable input received during the many occasions for public outreach and consensus that the CAC has prepared the comprehensive Plan for Shenandoah 2045 in accordance with the applicable Virginia Code and, we believe, in the best interests of all of our county residents." - Vito Gentile, Chairman, Citizens Advisory Committee

The first draft of Shenandoah 2045: A Future Together, Shenandoah County's new Comprehensive Plan is out! Check it out and let us know what you think, if we accurately captured your vision for the future or if we didn't, and let us know what we should do to implement it.

We are back out on the ground and in the community starting tomorrow, May 6th, 2023 starting in Downtown Mount Jackson at the Big Band Bash and then next weekend in Downtown Strasburg at Mayfest. Come see us!
