It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald Kates, a past member of the Woodridge Fire Department and former Trustee of the Village of Woodridge.

Ronald was a true staple of the Woodridge community and dedicated much of his life to serving others. His loss is a tremendous tragedy, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Ronald’s family, friends, fellow firefighters, and the entire Woodridge community during this difficult time.

Thank you, Ronald, for your years of service and dedication to the community you so proudly served. May he rest in peace.

This afternoon, the Woodridge Fire Department, along with the Fallsburg Fire Department, assisted with landing three helicopters at the elementary school following an incident involving three victims who were electrocuted by a pole and downed wires.

All three victims were transported to the hospital and are being treated for severe burns sustained from the electrocution.

⚠️ As a reminder, please stay clear of any area where you see downed wires. Never approach or assume wires are safe.

On behalf of the Officers and Members of the Woodridge Fire Department, we extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and the members of the Hurleyville Fire Department on the passing of Past Chief and Life Member Nelson Durland.

Nelson’s dedication, leadership, and commitment to the fire service left a lasting impact on his department, his community, and all who had the privilege of serving alongside him.

Rest easy, Chief. Your tour is complete, we will take it from here. 🕊️

He dedicated his life to serving others and leaving a lasting impact on the fire service community. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, loved ones, and all those who had the privilege of serving alongside him. 🕊️

Please be advised that the smoke and haze currently affecting our area is due to wildfires in northern Canada. This smoke can travel long distances and may impact air quality, even when there are no active fires nearby.

Residents are encouraged to take precautions, especially those with asthma, respiratory conditions, heart conditions, older adults, young children, and anyone who may be sensitive to changes in air quality.

This smoke and haze may continue in our area for the next few days as conditions change and smoke continues to move through the region.

Please remember: only call 911 if you see an active fire or are experiencing another emergency requiring immediate assistance.

On behalf of the officers and members of the Woodridge Fire Department, we would like to congratulate our very own Firefighter Alexia Clark on her graduation from Fallsburg Central School District. We are incredibly proud of all she has accomplished and the dedication she has shown both in school and as a member of our department. We wish her continued success in all her future endeavors and can’t wait to see what the next chapter holds for her. Congratulations, Alexia! 🎓🚒👏

Last night, the Woodridge Fire Department hosted a combined training drill with the Woodbourne Fire Department. Together, we focused on forcible entry techniques, an essential firefighting skill used to quickly and safely gain access to buildings during emergencies when doors or windows are locked, blocked, or otherwise inaccessible.

Thank you to the Woodbourne Fire Department Co #1 for joining us for another productive evening of training. We appreciate the opportunity to train together and strengthen the working relationships that are so important to our community. 🚒
