On December 18, 2025, the Woodmere Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a vehicle into a structure. Incoming Deputy Chief Kiani (3503) arrived first on scene and confirmed a vehicle had struck a two-story home. Chief of Department Rieman (3500) and Deputy Chief Perlzweig (3502) arrived shortly thereafter, along with Engine 355. The occupants of the residence were safely evacuated. The driver of the vehicle self-extricated and was evaluated for minor injuries. Engine 355 stretched a precautionary handline and secured utilities to the structure. Third Battalion West was requested, and the Minor TRT Matrix was activated to assist with stabilization of the residence. The incident operated under the command of Chief of Department Rieman, with mutual aid and TRT resources provided by the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department, Inwood Fire Department, Freeport Fire Department, and Rockville Centre Fire Department.

On September 1, 2025, the Woodmere Fire Department received multiple calls for a house fire in Woodmere. Upon arrival, Chief of Department Ross Rieman observed smoke showing from the home. The chief confirmed a fire condition and transmitted a working fire. Engine 355, Ladder 352, Ambulance 359, as well as 3500 and 3501, all responded to the scene. The crew of 355 stretched a handline to the second floor, where fire was located in the ceiling. The line was then advanced into the attic while mutual aid companies stretched additional handlines. Ladder 352 conducted searches and was responsible for overhaul operations. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and no injuries were reported. The fire was brought under control in under an hour, with all units released within an hour and a half. The scene was under the command of Chief of Department Ross Rieman.

On June 14th, 2025, The Woodmere Fire Department hosted a memorial service to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the line of duty death of former Woodmere Fire Department Chief and FDNY Lieutenant Peter B. Lund.

Peter Lund was a highly decorated and deeply respected figure in the American fire service. A second-generation firefighter, Lund began his service at age 18 with the Woodmere Fire Department, where he rose through the ranks and served as Chief of Department from 1989 to 1991. Even after his tenure as Chief, he remained an active and dedicated member of the Department until the end of his life.

Lund also served with the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) for over 30 years, including as Lieutenant in Rescue Company 2 in Brooklyn and Rescue Company 3 in the Bronx, two of the most elite and demanding units in the department. He was awarded several medals for bravery and was widely respected for his leadership and technical expertise in rescue operations.

In addition to his service in New York, Lund also volunteered with the Kentland Volunteer Fire Department in Prince George’s County, Maryland, reflecting his lifelong devotion to firefighting and mentorship. He was a nationally recognized instructor in structural collapse rescue, teaching at the Nassau County Fire Service Academy, the University of Illinois Fire Service Institute, and many other institutions across the country.

Lund tragically passed away on June 14, 2005, at the age of 54, after responding to a house fire in Woodmere.

Chief Lund will never be forgotten.
