The Woodlyn Fire Company regrets to announce the passing of Past Lieutenant and Vice President Eric W. Gardner.

Eric began his career in emergency services in 2005 as a junior firefighter before advancing through the ranks to Lieutenant. Not only a dedicated member, but a family member to the station. A role model that set the path for the current staff. Making sure to always take those new to the service under his guidance. Always full of knowledge and techniques that help contribute to protecting the community each and every call.

He had a strong affinity for law enforcement, starting his career as a turnkey for the Ridley Township Police Department, before taking a position as a 911 call taker for the Delaware County Department of Emergency Services. He eventually became a well-known police dispatcher. Each call was taken with calmness and professionalism. Taking responsibility of each situation as if it were his own. Using his depths of knowledge, yet again, in ways to protect the community but also those that serve the community. Eric was an exemplary member of the emergency services community.

Among his lifelong friends, he leaves behind his wife Gabby and their three children.

Arrangements and services for Eric will be announced publicly as they become available.

At approximately 10:15 am 12/04/2025 Woodlyn Fire Co was notified by Delaware County 911 for the report of a Fire Alarm system activation at Kinder Park Building 1 located at 1847 Constitution Avenue in the Woodlyn section of Ridley Township. The assignment was quickly upgraded to a reported building fire as 911 calls were received reporting smoke in the building. Squrt 67 quickly arrived at the scene and was advised by dispatchers they were receiving numerous calls from residents advising they were unable to evacuate do to smoke conditions in the apartments and common areas. Deputy Chief Ryder arrived on scene, established Command, and added additional fire and EMS resources to assist with evacuations. An evacuation area was established in the neighboring apartment building lobby. The fire was located in an apartment on the second floor and was contained to the originating apartment. Numerous residents were evacuated while some residents were able to be sheltered in place. One resident was transported by EMS for evaluation. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Ridley Township Fire Marshall’s office, Ridley Township Police Department, Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshall’s Office, and Delaware County Criminal Investigation Division Fire Investigators. Sanfilippo Syndrome foundation is pushing hard to find a cure. Anything you can do is greatly appreciated. They are trying to reach a financial goal this month. If you can’t donate, please pass along the donation link. Together, anything is possible.

Our daughter Sammi loves all things Peter Pan and being with her family. In 2021, Sammi was diagnosed with Sanfilippo Syndrome, a neurodegenerative disease that is like Alzheimer's in children. Currently, there is no FDA-approved treatment or cure for Sanfilippo. But there is hope.
