👵❤️👴 Happy Grandparents Day!

Today, we celebrate the grandparents who share their stories, pass down traditions, and help connect generations.

Here at the Woodland Fire Department, we’re also fortunate to have members of our Support Branch who dedicate their time to preserving and sharing the history of our department. 🚒

From caring for historic fire apparatus and equipment to keeping Woodland Fire’s stories and traditions alive, their work helps ensure that generations of service to our community are not forgotten.

On Grandparents Day, we want to say thank you to our Support Branch members for their dedication to Woodland Fire’s history and for helping us remember where we came from. ❤️

And to all the grandparents in our Woodland community, we hope you have a very Happy Grandparents Day!

📊 WOODLAND, WE HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY! 📊

Here's one reason Woodland Fire wants our community talking about AEDs.
Between 2020 and 2025:

🚑 335 resuscitations were attempted by Woodland Fire.
❤ Bystander CPR occurred in 37.6% of eligible cardiac arrests.
⚡ Public AED use was reported in only 6.1% of eligible public-setting cardiac arrests.

That last number is where our community has an opportunity. AEDs placed in public locations are there for people to use.

Knowing where they are, being willing to retrieve one, and understanding that the AED will guide you through the process can help remove some of the hesitation people may feel during an emergency.

We want more people in Woodland to be able to say: "I know where the AED is."

REMINDER: 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

Tomorrow morning, the Woodland Fire Department, Woodland Police Department, and City of Woodland invite our community to join us as we remember and honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

As we mark 25 years since that day, we will gather in remembrance of the nearly 3,000 lives lost, including the firefighters, law enforcement officers, and other first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice.

🚨 CONTROLLED BURN NOTICE 🚨

The Woodland Fire Department is currently assisting with a controlled burn in the area of County Road 102 and County Road 24.

Residents and motorists may notice smoke in the area throughout the duration of the burn. The smoke is associated with the controlled burn and may be visible from surrounding areas.

Please use caution when traveling near the area, as smoke may temporarily impact visibility.

👀 CHALLENGE: START NOTICING AEDS 👀

You've probably walked past one without noticing it. ⚡ This month, we want that to change. AEDs can be found in schools, gyms, workplaces, recreation facilities, businesses, and other public locations.

The next time you walk into one of those places, take a few seconds to look around. Can you find the AED?

During an emergency isn't the best time to begin searching for one.

Make it a habit:
👀 See the sign.
📍 Know the location.
⚡ Remember it's there.

Here's your challenge this week:
Find an AED somewhere you regularly spend time. Once you start looking for them, you may be surprised by how many you notice.

Happy Labor Day, Woodland!

Today, we recognize the people whose hard work, dedication, and service help keep our community moving every day.

While many are enjoying a well-earned day off, Woodland firefighters and first responders remain on duty and ready to respond when our community needs us. 🚒

However you're spending the holiday, we hope you have a safe and relaxing Labor Day with family and friends.

🚒 We're coming. Start without us. 🚒

When someone experiences cardiac arrest, calling 911 gets emergency responders moving. But there's something important happening while we're responding: Time is passing.

In 2025, Woodland Fire responded to 43 cardiac arrests where resuscitation was attempted. Nineteen of those cardiac arrests were witnessed by a bystander. Those are moments when someone is already there and has an opportunity to act. ❤️

If someone suddenly collapses and isn't breathing normally:

📞 Call 911 and follow the dispatcher's instructions.
❤ Start CPR.
🗣️ Send someone to get an AED.
⚡ Turn it on and follow its prompts.

Don't wait for the fire engine to arrive before starting care.

Every Second Starts With You - Early CPR. Early AED. Early action.

School is back. Sports are in full swing. Fall activities are starting. It's a good time to talk about something we want everyone in Woodland to know more about: AEDs. ⚡

From 2020 through 2025, Woodland Fire responded to 335 incidents where resuscitation was attempted.

Cardiac arrest isn't something that only happens somewhere else. It happens here, in our community. And when it happens, the first person who can help may not be a firefighter or paramedic. It may be a coworker. A coach. A teacher. A parent. A friend. Or you.

That's why we're spending September helping our community become more comfortable recognizing and using an AED.

⚡ Get the AED.
