Today is National Medal of Honor Day.

Since the Civil War, the United States has awarded the Medal of Honor to just over 3,500 service members. Out of the millions who have worn this nation's uniform, that number is a reminder of how rare true valor is and how extraordinary the men and women who earned it truly were.

The Medal of Honor is not given for doing the job. It is given for doing something far beyond it, often at great personal risk, in moments where most would not have been blamed for doing less. That distinction matters.

On this National Medal of Honor Day, we honor their courage, their selflessness, and the legacy they left behind. Their stories deserve to be told, remembered, and passed on.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! While we love seeing our community celebrate, tonight is one of the busiest nights of the year for impaired driving. NHTSA data shows around 47 people lose their lives in drunk driving crashes during this holiday, and that's a number we want to bring down together.

Our members will be out in force tonight, but here's how you can help keep everyone safe:
Plan your ride home before you start drinking. Rideshare, designated driver, whatever works for you.
Look out for your crew. If someone in your group is thinking about driving after drinking, speak up.
Know your limits. It's a celebration, not a competition.
Just don't do it. No destination is worth a drunk driving charge, or worse.

Stay safe out there and have a great St. Patrick's Day!

Saving Time begins today, Sunday, March 8 - and with it comes a documented, temporary decline in cognitive reaction times across the general population. Research shows the loss of just one hour of sleep measurably affects decision-making and response time, even in trained professionals.

Use this weekend as a reminder to check your home smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. It takes two minutes and it saves lives. And as you head into the week ahead, be deliberate about rest. The people who depend on you need you sharp.

On this day 111 years ago, the United States Navy Reserve was officially established - creating a force of citizen-sailors who would go on to serve in every theater of war and every era of national need.

A few numbers that put that legacy in perspective:

- 111 years of unbroken service to the nation
- Nearly 60,000 Selected Reserve personnel serving today
- Reservists comprised 84% of total Navy strength during World War II
- Thousands of today's reservists also serve as local and state law enforcement officers

The members of our associations who serve in the Navy Reserve don't clock out when their shift ends. They carry that sense of duty into every role they hold. Take a moment today to recognize the reservists you work alongside - their commitment runs twice as deep.

Today we recognize Presidents’ Day - a moment to reflect on leadership, service, and the ideals that continue to shape our nation.

Interesting fact: the federal holiday is officially called “Washington’s Birthday,” and it has been observed on the third Monday in February since the Uniform Monday Holiday Act moved it in 1971.

While names and traditions may vary, the meaning remains the same: honoring the individuals who have carried the responsibility of leading our country and remembering the importance of public service at every level.

From our members to our community, we wish everyone a safe and meaningful Presidents’ Day.

Love means showing up - even when it’s hard.

This Valentine’s Day, we recognize the strength of the families, partners, and loved ones who support those serving our communities every single day. Their patience, understanding, and sacrifice often happen quietly, but they matter deeply.

Today is about appreciation, gratitude, and remembering that service is never a solo effort.

Happy Valentine’s Day.

🌟 MLK Day: A Day On, Not a Day Off 🌟

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. dedicated his life to service - and in 1994, Congress officially designated MLK Day as a national day of service, making it the only federal holiday with that designation.

💬 "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?" - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

For law enforcement, service isn't just a holiday - it's the job. Today and every day, we honor Dr. King's legacy by striving to protect and serve all members of our communities.

How are you honoring Dr. King's legacy today? 👇

🔵 January 9 - Law Enforcement Appreciation Day 🔵

Every three days in 2025, a law enforcement family got the call no one ever wants to receive.

111 line-of-duty deaths. The lowest since 1943 - but still 111 families forever changed.

Behind every badge is someone's parent, spouse, child, or friend who chose a career knowing each shift could be their last.

Today, we say thank you. Not just with words - but with the respect and appreciation these brave men and women deserve every single day.
