Yolo Food Bank

Yolo Food Bank Yolo Food Bank works as a community to meet the food and nutrition needs of Yolo County. To this day, Yolo Food Bank remains the only food bank in Yolo County.
(1)

Yolo Food Bank was established in January 1970 as a backyard gleaning program organized and run by volunteers. Over the next decade, this effort grew to become a food closet, but it was still a volunteer-operated organization. In 1988, the first employees were hired and the organization grew to become a true food bank, joining what is now known as the Feeding America network in the 1990s. Now prop

elled by more than 50 staff members and nearly 3,000 volunteers in the past year, Yolo Food Bank serves food security needs for the entirety of Yolo County, from food recovery warehouse and operations facilities in Woodland. The organization maintains compliance with all federal, state and county codes and laws, and is the exclusive Yolo County member of Feeding America, the USDA Emergency Food Assistance Program, and the California Association of Food Banks. Together with our network of nearly 200 partners, Yolo Food Bank is on track to distribute at least 12 million pounds of food this year, via 130 distributions each month in every corner of Yolo County. This includes Yolo Food Bank's direct distribution programs (Eat Well Yolo, Eat Home Yolo, and Kids Farmers Market), as well as via more than 80 nonprofit partner organizations countywide. As Yolo Food Bank emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, it is the organization's objective to pursue the development of an equitable, sustainable local food system to benefit the health and wellness of ALL Yolo County residents.

When organizations who care about community work together, great things happen! ✨

Thank you Bayer Fund, a philanthropic arm of Bayer U.S., for awarding us a $10,000 grant for our Private Community Food Distributions. This money supports providing produce to over 200 households through home deliveries and 1,100 households at 24 community housing distributions we serve each month.

"Our Private Community Food Distributions provide an important safety net for individuals who are not able to attend public distribution events but still need access to fresh produce and pantry items. We are immensely grateful to The Bayer Fund and would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for their support of our community." - Genevieve Pyeatt, Director of Programs, Yolo Food Bank.

Letter carriers from West Sacramento and Woodland collected 8,597 pounds of non-perishable food straight from mailboxes and post offices and delivered it to our warehouse. πŸŽ‰

We’re so grateful to every letter carrier, food donor, and neighbor who made this drive a success. Your generosity will help support our community across Yolo County. πŸ’š

Even small CHANGE makes a big impact when we come together! πŸ«™βœ¨

We're teaming up with the Sacramento River Cats for "Make Change with Change," a summer activity inviting kids (ages 14 and under) to gather change for Yolo Food Bank and earn tickets to an upcoming River Cats game in return.

Here's how it works:

πŸ«™ Starting June 8, pick up a jar at Yolo Food Bank, Sutter Health Park, or at a local Yolo County public library (must be requested ahead of time). Jars are limited to one per child.
πŸͺ™ Do chores or jobs around your community to collect spare change.
πŸŽ‰ Once the jar is full, drop it off from July 7-11 at Sutter Health Park or Yolo Food Bank's Main Office.
⚾️ Each full jar returned receives 2 tickets to a Sacramento River Cats game!

Are you ready to support your community with small change, and big league impact?! πŸ‘‰ yolofb.org/makechange

Meet Caleb πŸ‘‹

Caleb has been volunteering at our Woodland Community and Senior Center site for about a year now. He shares that his inspiration to join the volunteer team was seeing the recipients at the Public Community Food Distributions, he believes everyone deserves nutritious food and it’s great to be the one handing it out!

He recalls times when he was in a similar situation as many of our recipients, and feels very lucky to be in a position where he is able to help those who need it. β€œYou’d be surprised how good it feels to help,” he explains β€œI like helping my neighbors and keeping the energy up during the food distribution!” Caleb definitely loves bringing energy to the site, cranking feel-good music from his speaker to keep spirits high!

If you are looking for a way to join a team of neighbors making a difference every week, come sign up to volunteer with Yolo Food Bank here! πŸ‘‰ yolofb.org/volunteer
