On June 2, the Yolo County Board of Supervisors unanimously passed a resolution proclaiming June 19th as Juneteenth in Yolo County. The resolution was accepted by County Superintendent Dr. Garth Lewis, Adriane Miles-Patterson, and Kailani Griffith.

During his remarks, Dr. Lewis acknowledged the recent passing of local leader Marilyn Hays and reflected on the connection between her life’s work and the significance of Juneteenth. “Marilyn Hays challenged us to close the gap between our ideals and our actions. Her vision was that no child would be disadvantaged because of our community’s failure to meet their developmental needs. Her legacy continues to guide our work.”
