Woodland/Sparta Volunteer Fire Department β€” Safety First πŸ”₯βœ…

Safety comes first in everything we do. Keep these simple habits to protect yourself, your family, and our community:

Be prepared: know escape routes, emergency contacts, and where your fire extinguisher and first-aid kit are. πŸ—ΊοΈπŸ“žπŸ§―
Check detectors: test smoke and CO alarms monthly; replace batteries and alarms per manufacturer guidance. πŸ””πŸ”‹
Drive safe: buckle up, avoid distractions, follow speed limits, and never drive impaired. πŸš—πŸ”’πŸš«πŸΊ
Home safety: store flammables properly, keep space heaters clear, and don’t leave cooking unattended. 🏠πŸ”₯🍳
Water safety: supervise swimmers, use life jackets, and check conditions before going out. πŸ›ŸπŸŠβ€β™€οΈπŸŒŠ
Outdoor fire safety: follow burn bans, keep bonfires small, and fully extinguish before leaving. 🌲πŸ”₯🧹
Work & hobby safety: use proper PPE, follow instructions, and get training for tools or equipment. πŸ› οΈπŸ₯½πŸ§€
Know CPR and basic first aid; take a class if you can. β€οΈβ€πŸ©ΉπŸ©Ί
If an emergency occurs, call 911 β€” don’t hesitate. πŸš¨πŸ“ž
Stay alert, plan ahead, and look out for one another. Safety first β€” Woodland/Sparta VFD πŸ‘©β€πŸš’πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’

Woodland/Sparta Volunteer Fire Department β€” Why Your Volunteer Fire Department Matters

Volunteer firefighters are more than emergency responders β€” they’re neighbors who protect and strengthen our community.

Rapid local response: Volunteers live nearby and often arrive faster to fires, crashes, and medical emergencies.
Broad services: We provide firefighting, vehicle rescue, basic medical support, fire prevention education, and disaster response.
Community safety & prevention: Through home safety checks, school visits, and public outreach we reduce risk before emergencies happen.
Cost-effective protection: Volunteer departments help keep taxes and municipal costs lower while providing essential services.
Community resilience: In large-scale events volunteers coordinate relief, evacuation, and recovery efforts.
Local commitment: Our members invest time in training, equipment maintenance, and emergency readiness because they care about their neighbors.
Economic & social benefits: Safer communities attract business and help residents feel secure.

Woodland/Sparta Volunteer Fire Department β€” Water Safety Reminder

Always supervise children around water; designate a responsible adult as a β€œwater watcher.”
Learn to swim and enroll kids in swim lessons.
Wear life jackets on boats, docks, and during water sports β€” U.S. Coast Guard-approved for all non-swimmers.
Swim only in designated areas with lifeguards when available.
Avoid alcohol before or during swimming, boating, or supervising.
Keep a phone, rescue ring, reaching pole, and first-aid kit nearby.
Teach children to stay away from drains and pool filters.
Know CPR and basic water rescue techniques.
Check local weather and water conditions before going out.
If someone is missing or in trouble in the water, call 911 immediately β€” do not endanger yourself trying to rescue without training.
Stay safe and enjoy the water β€” Woodland/Sparta VFD
