🚨 TWELVE CITATIONS. ONE IMPORTANT REMINDER. 🚨

In the last few days, the Woodland Police Department Traffic Unit issued twelve citations along Kentucky Avenue for vehicles traveling in excess of 50 mph.

Kentucky Avenue is a 35 mph zone. Speed limits are established to help drivers safely navigate our roadways and give everyone more time to react when conditions change.

The Traffic Unit will continue to focus on unsafe driving behaviors that create a greater risk to everyone using our roads.

Slow down. Follow the posted speed limit. Give yourself and others a better chance to get home safely.

Twenty-five years ago today, our nation was forever changed.

On September 11, 2001, 2,977 people were killed in the attacks at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and aboard United Airlines Flight 93. They came from 90 nations and represented every walk of life.

Today, the Woodland Police Department remembers the lives lost, honors the survivors and families who continue to carry their memories, and pays tribute to the courage and sacrifice demonstrated by first responders and ordinary people who stepped forward to help.

Twenty-five years later, we remember their names. We remember their stories. We remember their sacrifice.

We will never forget.

REMINDER: 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

Tomorrow morning, the Woodland Fire Department, Woodland Police Department, and City of Woodland invite our community to join us as we remember and honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

As we mark 25 years since that day, we will gather in remembrance of the nearly 3,000 lives lost, including the firefighters, law enforcement officers, and other first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice.

25 Years Later: We Remember

On Friday, September 11, the Woodland Fire Department, Woodland Police Department, and City of Woodland invite our community to join us for a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony honoring the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

This year marks 25 years since the attacks that forever changed our nation. We will gather to remember the victims, honor the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice, and reflect on the courage and unity shown in the days that followed.

🚨 5 ARRESTS. 2 INVESTIGATIONS. 🚨

Officers, and community members are working together to address criminal activity, and that partnership is making a difference.

In two separate investigations, officers made five arrests and recovered burglary tools, stolen copper wire, and other evidence tied to criminal activity.

🔹 INVESTIGATION #1 | 3 ARRESTS
On August 24, 2026, at 7:19 a.m., County Fair Mall employees monitoring surveillance observed suspects moving electrical wire in a shopping cart near the mall. Officers located the associated gold SUV and contacted 49-year-old John Saveng, 43-year-old Jakizza Morgan, and 58-year-old Hope Edadiz, all from Sacramento.

Officers found heavy-gauge copper wire and burglary tools consistent with cutting conduit and electrical wire. Additional wire was located in a shopping cart near an unsecured mall entrance. Inside an electrical room, officers discovered removed panels, cut conduit, and other evidence consistent with the theft. The stolen wire was valued at approximately $1,000. Drugs and drug paraphernalia were also recovered during the investigation.

Saveng, Morgan, and Edadiz were arrested for burglary, conspiracy, and additional property and drug related charges.

🔹 INVESTIGATION #2 | 2 ARRESTS

On September 2, 2026, at 1:00 a.m., mall security spotted two people walking along the side of the closed Gottschalks building on surveillance. Officers contacted 23-year-old Justin Phienemanh and 41-year-old Dina Dethmongkhoh, both from Sacramento, inside a gated area.
A discarded backpack containing burglary tools was found nearby, and Dethmongkhoh was found in possession of batteries associated with the tools.

Phienemanh and Dethmongkhoh were arrested for trespassing and possession of burglary tools.

👮 PARTNERSHIP MATTERS. Employees and security personnel who pay attention, monitor their surroundings, and quickly communicate with officers provide valuable information that helps us identify criminal activity and make arrests.

*** Serious Collision / Road Closure ***

Eastbound Kentucky Avenue between College St and East Street and Palm Avenue south of Kentucky Avenue will be closed for several hours for a collision investigation.

Please avoid the area to avoid traffic delays and detours.

UPDATE: 7:16 AM

On Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 5:02am, Woodland Police Officers responded to the area of Kentucky Avenue and Palm Avenue for reports of a traffic collision involving two vehicles. Officers arrived and provided aid to those involved. At least one person was transported to an area hospital with major injuries.

The Woodland Police Department Traffic Unit responded to the scene and is conducting the investigation, including follow up to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Kentucky Avenue in the area of the collision will remain closed for an undetermined amount of time while the investigation continues. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

We will provide additional information as it becomes available.

Does the sky look a little eerie to anyone else today?

If you’ve noticed the hazy, unusual-looking skies over Woodland, what you’re seeing is smoke from the fires burning near Big Sur drifting over our area.

While the smoke is certainly impacting the appearance of our Valley skies, current air quality at ground level is not being significantly impacted, as much of the smoke is remaining aloft.

Conditions can change, so we always encourage residents to stay informed—especially those who may be sensitive to smoke.
