Mountain Communities Volunteer Fire Department

Mountain Communities Volunteer Fire Department We are very proud to serve the communities of Westcreek, Trout Creek, Turkey Rock, Lost Valley and Lutheran Valley Ranch, as well as Pike National Forest.

Mountain Communities Volunteer Fire Department is proud to provide 911 emergency fire and medical response to the areas of Teller and Douglas Counties of Colorado. We cover northwest Teller County and southwest Douglas County in the beautiful state of Colorado. Mountain Communities provides Fire and EMS 911 response over a 99 square mile fire/rescue district, situated along Highway 67 between Deck

ers to the north and Woodland Park to the south. The east and west borders are within Rainbow Falls to the east and the south fork of the South Platte river above Cheeseman Reservoir to the west. We average 120 calls a year and EMS usually accounts for about 80% of these calls. We service an additional 100 square miles of “no mans” land within Pike National Forest, all the way east to Rampart Range Road. We are active participants in the Teller County Task Force, when large incidents require many departments to team together. Our terrain is between 7500 and 10000 altitude, leading to many tough, mountainous rescues. Our small team of volunteer Firefighters, EMTs, and EMRs dedicate their time and energy towards this demanding work. We have a capable selection of vehicles and equipment spread between 3 stations within the district.

Fresh off the press, here is our current thoughts for snow with the upcoming storm system. With any late Spring snow, snow accumulations will be dependent on several factors, but the mountains are expected to get another round of heavy and wet snow, with snow falling across lower elevations as well given colder temperatures. Continues to monitor the forecast for the latest updates on trends.

Today is International Firefighters’ Day, observed each year on May 4th. We remember past Firefighters who have died while serving our community or dedicated their lives to protecting the safety of us all. Let's show our support and appreciation to the Firefighters world wide who continue to protect us throughout the year. Take the time to thank a Firefighter, shake their hand or even send some positive vibes their way.

From pulaskis to pack tests, our Wildland Field Day and Refresher weekend covered it all! Expert instructor Jonathan Folger helped more than 20 attendees obtain initial wildland firefighting certification or complete annual recertification. Participants dug handline, ran scenarios, and had engaging classroom discussions. Thanks Jonathan for another top-notch course this year!

The Fire Weather Watch has been upgraded to a Red Flag Warning for today. Southwest winds will increase this afternoon with gusts up to 30 mph. At the same time, fuels remain extremely dry and humidity levels will drop to minimums close to 10%. Winds will be mostly lighter elsewhere, but fire starts will still be easy given the extremely dry conditions. Avoid any outdoor activity that may produce a spark.
