After finishing forest school, we dropped off our ballots at one of our favorite places: the Woodinville Library! It was inspiring to see a steady line of cars pulling up to turn in their ballots at the same time. And Librarian Poppy even gave us a tour of the book-sorting machine, so it was a double exciting trip for my kiddo.
It is truly an indescribable feeling to go from a public school student, to a public school teacher, to a candidate for our public school board. Bubbling in my own name for Northshore School District School Board, Seat 5 Director, was surreal.
I want my little one to know that when I saw an opportunity to serve our community and represent our values, I dug deep for bravery. I didn’t have the courage to run for office until I grew this human and looked into his eyes at 18 months old and thought: I want you to know I did everything I possibly could to hand your generation a thriving, equitable society.
I also want my former students (many of whom are voting adults now!) to feel proud. I want them to see that their teacher, who believed in them then, is still just as passionate about making sure all learners feel welcome and supported with equal access to pathways of opportunity.
As a first-time candidate, I’ve learned so much over the past six months and met so many incredible people in our community. I’m deeply grateful for everyone who has contributed, encouraged, and endorsed me along the way.
From the classroom to the school boardroom, I’m excited about the possibility of using my knowledge and experience as a veteran educator to serve students and families in a new and different way.
Polls close at 8 PM! Let’s get those ballots in! 🗳️
