FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Monroe Fire Department Volunteer Honored as EMR of the Year for Wisconsin Assembly District 50
Monroe, WI — The City of Monroe Fire Department is proud to announce that Cheryl Gassman, a dedicated Emergency Medical Responder with our department, was honored on October 14, 2025, at the Wisconsin State Capitol in Madison as the Emergency Medical Responder of the Year for Wisconsin Assembly District 50.
The annual First Responder of the Year celebration recognizes first responders from across Wisconsin who demonstrate exceptional dedication, compassion, and service to their communities. Cheryl was joined by Fire Chief Alan Rufer and her family as she was recognized on the Assembly floor.
Cheryl’s compassion and dedication to the people of Monroe exemplify what it means to be a first responder. We are incredibly proud to see her receive this honor. She represents the very best of our department, and her example inspires many — both within our department and throughout the broader community.
The Monroe Fire Department extends heartfelt congratulations to Cheryl on this outstanding achievement. Her recognition is not only a personal honor but also a reflection of the strength, commitment, and heart of all of our members.
We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to Representative Jenna Jacobson for her support and nomination of Cheryl for this well-deserved recognition. Her acknowledgment of Cheryl’s service helps highlight the vital role our emergency responders play in keeping Wisconsin communities safe.
