The kids are heading back to school this week let’s remember to stay safe, and obey all posted traffic laws.

Back to School Safety Reminder

Summer break is coming to an end, and students will soon be back in the classroom! The Woodbury City Police Department wants to remind all motorists to slow down, stay alert, and use extra caution as students return to walking, biking, and riding the bus to school.

Safety Reminders for Drivers:

*Watch for children walking to and from school, especially near crosswalks and bus stops

*Slow down in school zones and residential areas

*Come to a complete stop for stopped school buses with flashing red lights, as required by law

*Avoid distractions—put the phone down while driving

*Be patient during morning and afternoon drop-off/pick-up times

Safety Reminders for Students and Families:

*Use crosswalks and sidewalks whenever possible

*Make eye contact with drivers before crossing the street

*Wear bright or reflective clothing when walking in low-light conditions

*Arrive at bus stops a few minutes early and wait in a safe area

The Woodbury City Police Department wishes all students, teachers, and staff a happy, healthy, and successful school year. Let’s all do our part to keep our students safe as they head back to school!

At approximately 0100 hours on Monday, August 31, 2026, Engine 5 was initially dispatched for a cover assignment at Station 92 (Tacoma) in Deptford Township while companies were operating at a working fire in the 100 Block of Hemlock Court in the Narraticon Woods development.

While responding with a staffing of four, Deptford Fire Chief 901 upgraded the incident to a second alarm, bringing Engine 5 directly to the scene. Engine 5 subsequently arrived as the third-due engine and assisted with stretching handlines to the Alpha Division alongside with members from Tower Ladder 10 and Ladder Tower 926.

While crews were operating in the Charlie Division, where the main body of fire was located, Engine 5, Tower Ladder 10, and Ladder Tower 926 made entry, accessed the fire floor, and knocked down a large body of fire.

Crews worked to complete primary and secondary searches of all apartments and began overhaul operations. The incident was eventually upgraded to a third alarm, with a few additional special calls above the third alarm. The fire was placed under control at approximately 0300 hours.

After restoring equipment, Engine 5 was released and returned to the city limits at approximately 0500 hours.

While Engine 5 operated in Deptford Township, a Gloucester County Regional Task Force covered the area and handled an activated fire alarm in the 400 block of S. Evergreen Avenue in Woodbury.

No injuries to members were reported. The fire remains under investigation by the Deptford Township Fire Marshal’s Office.

⛈️ Severe storm cells are still impacting Gloucester County and the region. Our officials witnessed several minutes of large hail. And as reported yesterday, these storms are capable of producing a tornado. Stay alert!

🌪️ Tornado WATCHES or WARNINGS continue to be monitored with a capable cell moving from the Woodstown - South Harrison Twp. areas tracking towards Harrison Twp. / Glassboro. - 2:10pm

☔️ We are under a FLASH FLOOD WARNING until 5:45pm!! 🚙 Turn Around, Don’t Drown!!

🚦Multiple area power outages have been reported, and many of them are affecting traffic signals!! Always come to a complete stop when signals are not functioning!

☎️ Report emergencies and hazards as need be, and be mindful of our dedicated 9-1-1 dispatchers who are extremely busy!

The Woodbury Fire Department is deeply saddened by the loss of Past Fire Chief Joseph Petsch from the Star Cross Volunteer Fire Company, Franklin Township. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends as they go through this difficult time.
