Join us for a highly anticipated, full-length presentation exploring Connecticut’s early witchcraft trials and the real people whose lives were forever changed by fear, suspicion, and accusation. 🇺🇸👏 Happy Labor Day from the staff and Board Members of the Glebe House!
Did you know the first widely recognized Labor Day celebration was held in New York City on September 5, 1882? It was organized by the Central Labor Union and included a parade, picnic, speeches, and entertainment.

The idea quickly spread, and Oregon became the first state to make Labor Day an official holiday in 1887. Labor Day became a federal holiday in 1894, when President Grover Cleveland signed it into law.

Today, we celebrate Labor Day on the first Monday in September. While many see it as the unofficial end of summer, its true purpose is to honor the hard work and achievements of American workers.
