On this , as well as every day that the JCC of Greater New Haven is open, you can view Ben Shahn’s lithographs of the three civil rights workers who were murdered in Mississippi in June of 1964, also known as Freedom Summer.

The three civil rights workers who will forever memorialized in the prints are James Chaney, Michael Schwerner and Andrew Goodman. The 1988 movie "Mississippi Burning" was based on the horrific murders.

$3.2 million raised. One match. Nearly two years.

When Henry Zachs launched his endowment matching initiative in November 2024, he believed in the power of permanent giving. Donors responded. Now, almost 2 years later, $3.2 million in endowment funds supporting Connecticut College Hillel, Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Hartford, University of Hartford Hillel, UConn Hillel and Camp Laurelwood will be matched dollar for dollar, doubling the impact of every contribution.

The match ends June 30. This incredible opportunity is almost gone. Contact us today to take advantage of this match! https://newhavenjewishfoundation.org/contact/

If you own stocks that have gone up in value, here's a smarter way to give.
Instead of donating cash, donate the stock directly to the Jewish Foundation of Greater New Haven.

Here's why: You get a charitable deduction for the full current value of the stock. But you avoid paying capital gains tax on the profit. That's a win-win.

Simple example: You bought stock for $2,000. It's now worth $8,000. If you sell it, you'll owe tax on that $6,000 gain. But if you donate it instead, you get a full $8,000 charitable deduction with zero capital gains tax.

Donate to your favorite charity, and get a bigger tax benefit. Everyone wins.
This works whether your stock appreciated a little or a lot. And if you're not itemizing deductions, consider bunching donations over several years to maximize tax benefits.
