Last night at approximately 6:00 p.m., crews responded to a single-vehicle rollover crash near Panoramic Highway and Marin View Avenue in Throckmorton. 

The vehicle left the roadway and fell approximately 200 feet down an embankment. Due to the challenging terrain, firefighters deployed a rope rescue system to safely extricate the occupant from the crash site. The patient was rescued and transported to a local hospital in critical but stable condition. 
 
Responding agencies included Marin County Fire, Southern Marin Fire, CHP, State Parks, and Marin County Sheriff.  
 
Safety Reminder: Roads like Panoramic Highway can be narrow and winding, with limited shoulders and steep embankments. Drive at a safe speed, stay focused, and give yourself plenty of space from the road’s edge.

Anoche, aproximadamente a las 18:00 horas, los equipos de emergencia acudieron a un accidente en el que un vehículo volcó cerca de Panoramic Highway y Marin View Avenue, en Throckmorton. 

El vehículo se salió de la carretera y cayó unos 200 pies. Debido a las dificultades del terreno, los bomberos utilizaron un sistema de rescate con cuerdas para sacar de forma segura al ocupante. El paciente fue rescatado y trasladado a un hospital local en estado crítico, aunque estable. 

 Entre los organismos que intervinieron se encontraban Marin County Fire Department, Southern Marin Fire Department, California Highway Patrol (CHP), Marin County Parks y Marín County Sheriff.

Prescribed Burn and Fire Training 🚨 June 17 & 18

Training Battalion Chief Wallace explains how this training burn provides critical firefighter training, and helps us prepare for wildfire season.

A prescribed burn is scheduled for TODAY, June 17 and 18 in the St Vincent area and is expected to produce smoke visible to those in or near Novato and San Rafael. Smoke will also be in full view to commuters on Highway 101.

We ask the community to refrain from calling 9-1-1 to report smoke from the burn area. Share this post with your friends who live in or commute in the area that may see or smell smoke.

Una quema controlada programada para el 17 y 18 de junio, en el área de St. Vincent, emitirá humo visible para todos los que se encuentren en Novato o San Rafael. Los conductores que circulen por la autopista 101 también podrán verlo.

Every year we hire 120+ seasonal firefighters to help provide additional staffing throughout the county during peak fire season. As a part of their onboarding, all recruits attend a two-week academy to help reinforce the skills they have developed throughout their careers while preparing them for the unique challenges of protecting Marin County.

Week 1 of the Marin County Seasonal Firefighter Training Academy provided recruits with hands-on experience across eight essential fireground skill stations, including fire hydrant operations, 1¾-inch and 2½-inch hose deployments, forcible entry, fire attack, victim search, ladder and ventilation operations, and auto extrication. Through each evolution, recruits learn to work effectively under pressure, building the trust, coordination, and confidence necessary for the job.

This week, training moves into the Wildland Academy. Recruits will spend June 17 & 18 conducting a prescribed burn in the St Vincents area gaining experience in the tactics used to suppress and manage wildfires. Smoke from the burn may be visible, we ask the community to refrain from calling 9-1-1 to report smoke from the planned burn.

Cada año, Marin County Fire Department contrata a más de 120 bomberos de temporada para reforzar personal en todo el condado durante la temporada alta de incendios. Como parte de su capacitación, todos los reclutas asisten a una academia de dos semanas de duración destinada a reforzar sus habilidades adquiridas a lo largo de su trayectoria profesional, y a la vez los prepara para los retos específicos que implica proteger el condado de Marin.

La primera semana de la Academia de Formación de Bomberos proporcionó a los reclutas experiencia práctica en ocho áreas esenciales de habilidades en el control de incendios, incluyendo el manejo de hidrantes, el despliegue de mangueras de 1¾ y 2½ pulgadas, la entrada forzada, el combate de incendios, la búsqueda de víctimas, las operaciones con escaleras y de ventilación, y la extracción de víctimas en vehículos. A través de cada ejercicio, los reclutas aprendieron a trabajar eficazmente bajo presión, forjando la confianza, la coordinación y la seguridad necesaria para actuar de forma segura y satisfactoria en el entorno de incendios.

Esta semana, la formación pasa a enfocarse en Incendios Forestales. Los reclutas se dedicarán a realizar una quema controlada en la zona de St. Vincent 's los días 17 y 18 de junio, adquiriendo experiencia en las tácticas utilizadas para sofocar y controlar incendios forestales. El humo de la quema podrá ser visible. Pedimos a la comunidad que se abstenga de llamar al 9-1-1 para informar de humo procedente de la zona de la quema controlada.

After three days missing, Shadow the black pug is finally home. 🐾❤️

Last night at approximately 7:00 PM, Marin County Fire responded to a report of a dog trapped inside a deep hole at a construction site in Lagunitas.

Using skills gained through cross-training between our engine companies and Urban Search & Rescue (US&R) teams, firefighters carefully conducted a confined space rescue to reach Shadow, who had fallen into a hole approximately 20 feet deep and 3–4 feet in diameter within a much larger excavation area.

Thanks to the teamwork and training of our crews, Shadow was safely rescued and reunited with his family.

Every call is different, and we’re proud to use our specialized rescue training to help both people and pets when they need us most.

At approximately 5:00 p.m the Emergency Command Center received reports of a small vegetation fire in the area of Nicasio Valley Road and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard in the San Geronimo Valley.

A wildland fire response was immediately dispatched, including two fire-crews, five type-3 wildland engines, twi water tender, a chief officer, and an ambulance. Upon arrival, Marin County firefighters located a vegetation fire burning behind a private structure.

Crews quickly engaged and stopped forward progress at approximately 5:25 p.m. The fire was contained at aprox 2 acres. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Prescribed Burn Notification 🚨 June 17 – 18

A prescribed burn, scheduled for June 17 and 18 in the St Vincent area is expected to produce smoke visible to those in or near San Rafael and Novato. Smoke will also be in full view to commuters on Highway 101. We ask the community to refrain from calling 9-1-1 to report smoke from the burn area.

Prescribed burns are a critical tool in wildfire prevention and firefighter training. This operation provides essential live-fire training for about 120 newly hired seasonal firefighters, who play a vital role in protecting our community throughout the fire season. Known as the Wildland Academy, this prescribed burn operation gives Marin County Fire personnel the opportunity to test and expand the experience they need to safely respond to wildfires locally and across the state.

A Heat Advisory is in effect for portions of eastern and northern Marin on Thursday, June 11, from 12:00 PM to 11:00 PM.

High temperatures can increase the risk of heat-related illness, especially for older adults, young children, people who work outdoors, and those with underlying health conditions.

Stay safe by drinking plenty of water, limiting strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat, taking breaks in the shade or air conditioning, and checking in on friends, family, and neighbors who may need extra support.
