In response to the fatal shooting earlier this week at the Wood Village Town Center, Mayor Jairo Rios-Campos released the following statement:

Today, our community is mourning a tragic and senseless loss of life. We are also grappling with the loss of the sense of safety that community members expect and deserve. Our hearts are with the victim’s family, friends, and all who have been impacted by this horrific act of violence.

For many, the Wood Village Town Center is more than a shopping destination: it is a gathering place where families shop, dine, and connect with neighbors. The violence that occurred there has shaken our community and disrupted people’s ability to go about their daily lives without fear.

🚧 Annual Hydrant Flushing Underway 🚧
The City is currently conducting its annual hydrant flushing program to help maintain water quality and ensure our system is working properly.

💧 What to Expect
Properties south of Shannon St and around the Town Center may experience temporary water discoloration during this process. While the water remains safe, it may appear cloudy or rusty due to sediment being stirred up in the pipes.

➡️ Looking ahead: Flushing will take place starting next week for properties north of Shannon St and the Town Center, so those properties may experience similar temporary discoloration at that time.

If You Notice Discolored Water:
✅ Run your cold water tap for a few minutes until the water clears
✅ If it doesn’t clear, wait a few minutes and try again
✅ Avoid using hot water to prevent sediment from entering your water heater
✅ Hold off on washing clothes until the water runs clear

📞 If discoloration persists for more than a day, please contact the City at (503) 667-6211.

Thank you for your patience as we complete this important maintenance to keep our water system clean and reliable!

🌳 Holiday Weekend at the Park 🌳
Whether you’re picnicking, biking, hooping, or sliding, we’re excited to see our community out enjoying the park this weekend! With the holiday, please expect the park to be busier than usual.

A few friendly reminders to help keep the park safe and welcoming for everyone:
✅ Please dispose of all trash (use nearby dumpsters if cans are full)
✅ Keep pets on a leash and clean up after them
✅ No fireworks, alcohol, smoking, or va**ng in the park
✅ Be mindful of shared spaces and posted picnic shelter and field reservations

💧 Splash Pad Update:
The splash pad will unfortunately not be operating this weekend due to maintenance. We know that’s a bummer (we feel it too!), and we appreciate your understanding while we work to keep it in great shape.

🚻 Restrooms are available north of the picnic shelter near the playground.

Let’s all do our part to keep the park clean, safe, and fun for everyone. Have a great holiday weekend! ☀️
