LSA GRANTS AWARDED TO THE WVFC

Yesterday the WVFC was notified we were awarded two grants totaling almost $335,000 through the Local Share Account Statewide (LSA) Grant Program.

Each year, the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA), an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), which holds fiduciary responsibility over the funding of programs and investments on behalf of the Commonwealth, distributes the state's share of gaming revenue to local governments and programs.

The funds from the first grant will be used to replace and upgrade our portable radios and adding headset intercom systems to our apparatus.

Our existing portable radios have reached the end of their serviceable life where repairs to radios may no longer be feasible and are no longer covered under warranty.

The second grant will be used to make upgrades to our 2007 Mack/Pierce tanker including lighting upgrades, a hosebed cover, and hydraulic ladder rack system with ground ladders.

We would like to thank Senator Chris Gebhard and Eric J. Weaknecht, State Representative for their support as well as our municipal officials from Womelsdorf Borough and Heidelberg Township who supported our applications. Finally to Bill Van Etten of BVE Grants for his assistance with the applications.

A month ago Chief Martin was contacted by Amanda Craft our Fire company liaison’s wife about possibly hosting a birthday party for one of the children in the Borough at the station. Without hesitation he brought it to members at our monthly meeting and was overwhelmed with support for this to happen. We all wish Brayden a Happy Birthday and he also went home with some souvenirs including a Fire company T shirt to remember his day. Thank you Amanda Degler Craft for allowing us to assist with his special day for Brayden.

Brayden was just two weeks away from his 2nd birthday when he was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. Neuroblastoma is a very rare, aggressive childhood cancer and by the time Brayden's was discovered it had already spread throughout most of his little body. Thanks to the amazing care he received at Penn State Hershey, Brayden is finished with treatments. Today he was able to celebrate his 3rd birthday party with us and 40 of his closest friends and relatives.
