In Memory of David Gifford, One of our founding members.

David Gifford, of Wolcott, died on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Copley Hospital.

He was born at home, on Sept. 9, 1949, in Hardwick, to Perley and Arlene (Davis) Gifford. He attended Hardwick Academy, graduating in 1968, and married his childhood sweetheart Barbara Martin, on Dec. 7, 1968. Together, they settled in Wolcott and raised their four children.

David was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He had a wonderful sense of humor and always had a story or joke to tell. He worked as a custodian at Hazen Union High School for over 20 years, and then for Green Mountain Coffee Roasters in Waterbury, before retiring in 2015.

David took great pride in being one of the founding members of the Wolcott Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a very talented musician. He could play the trumpet, banjo, mandolin, piano, electric and acoustic guitars. In his younger days he played guitar and sang in a local band with his father. He enjoyed hunting and fishing at and around his favorite spot, Wolcott Pond and “making the ridge.”

David is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara; children Melissa and husband Matthew Fogel of Stowe, Tammy and husband Timothy Benjamin of Florida, Daniel and wife Christine of Hardwick and Philip of Richford; and sister Donna Hale of Hardwick. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Caitlin, Logan and Megan; and three great-grandchildren, Harper, Harvey and Waylon.

There will be no formal service, but if anyone would like, please make any donations to the Wolcott Volunteer Fire Department.
