Considering the forecast looks like nothing but ⛈️⛈️⛈️ for a good bit, give the Virginia Department of Emergency Management page a quick like and follow. Not only do they share important information, they can be quite hilarious as well. Another good one for reliable information is US National Weather Service Morristown Tennessee. There are also many local pages such as Tri-Cities Weather & Alert Crew that share good information.

Y’all be safe out there, and if you’re out and about, go hit up Chillin' and Grillin' In The Glades!!

National Public Works Week is May 18–24! There is no doubt that the Town of Wise Public Works Department is top of the line! From maintaining our streets, utility infrastructure, quality of drinking water to special projects, emergency call-outs, and maintenance of public grounds, these guys do it all! Join us in celebrating these hard working crews and if you see them out and about, let them know what a fine job they're doing!

The National Weather Service in Morristown has issued a

* Tornado Warning for...
The northeastern City of Norton in southwestern Virginia...
Central Wise County in southwestern Virginia...

* Until 300 PM EDT.

* At 224 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado
was located near Wise, moving east at 55 mph.

HAZARD...Tornado.

SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.
Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree
damage is likely.

* This dangerous storm will be near...
Wise around 230 PM EDT.

Other locations impacted by this tornadic thunderstorm include
Coeburn and Pound.

The Town of Wise would like to congratulate intern Abigail Stoffelen on her graduation today! Abby graduated with a B.A in Government (Political Science) and finished up an awesome four years with UVA Wise Women's Lacrosse. United Way of Southwest Virginia is happy to announce our Citizen Recovery Program (CRP). The CRP was established with the mission to provide financial assistance for citizens who are recovering from disaster events within affected counties in Southwest Virginia.

Funding will be provided as a payment directly to the business, vendor, landlord, or contractor that will be supplying your recovery assistance. If you were directly affected by Hurricane Helene or Winter Storm Jett, whether this included temporary housing displacement, rental or utility needs, loss or damage to personal property or vital documents, financial loss, food shortages, education support, or landscape cleanup, we encourage you to submit an application to receive assistance from this CRP while funding is available.

Financial assistance will be determined based upon the needs of the household and funding available at the time of the application. More details are provided within the CRP application.
