Truck 3 along with other units responded to Pamela Drive on Wednesday for an active chimney fire. Crews responded to find the chimney blocked near the top section of the chimney. After the blockage was cleared, interior crews ensured there was no fire extended to the structure and the building was turned back over to the homeowner.

Thank you Monmouth Fire Department for their mutual aid.

PRESS RELEASE

TUESDAY 2/10/2026 @ 12:50pm

FIRE AT THREE STORY APARTMENT BUILDING

Early Tuesday afternoon, the Winthrop Fire Department was toned for an automatic fire alarm at a large building in town that was previously a nursing home. Upon arrival, crews discovered the sprinkler system had been set off, with water flowing. The initial interior crew headed to the second floor, finding evidence of a kitchen fire that was put out by the sprinkler system.

This fire was quickly extinguished by the system before first responders were ever aware of it. If this building did not have this system, it would have started a much larger fire endangering the lives of many that lived there and undoubtedly destroying the entire building rather than just the room where the fire originated.

Thank you to the Monmouth Fire Department for their mutual aid response.

Sprinkler systems save lives and property.
