In case anyone is having speculations of potential tornado in Winterville, the siren was just a scheduled test of the system. No need to be alarmed. But, we do know now, that it works in the event of an actual tornado.

The Winterville Emergency Shelter is officially CLOSED at this time.

Roadways throughout Winterville currently appear to be passable; however, please continue to use caution while traveling. There may still be areas of black ice, especially on bridges, shaded roadways, and less-traveled streets.

Slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and remain alert.

Winterville is experiencing icy road conditions this morning, with light snow and freezing temperatures creating slick spots—especially on bridges, shaded areas, and less-traveled roads. While conditions may look passable, black ice is present and difficult to see.

🚔 If you must travel today:
• Slow down and increase following distance
• Avoid sudden braking or sharp turns
• Use extra caution on bridges and intersections
• Give road crews space to work

🌨️ Local weather advisories indicate temperatures near or below freezing, meaning icy conditions may persist throughout the day.

🚨 WINTER WEATHER ALERT – EMERGENCY SHELTER INFORMATION 🚨

The Winterville Police Department urges residents to prepare for dangerous winter weather and icy conditions expected this weekend. Travel may become hazardous, and power outages are possible.

❄️ Emergency Shelter Operations ❄️
The Winterville Cultural Center will operate as an Emergency Shelter:

🕓 Saturday: Opens at 4:00 p.m.
🕛 Sunday: Open until 12:00 p.m.
➡️ Conditions will be reassessed Sunday morning, and shelter operations may be extended through Monday if needed.

🛏️ Shelter Details:
• Beds and bedding available for 14 people
• Backup heating sources
• Basic food supplies available
• Additional guests will be accommodated if possible

Residents are encouraged to shelter at home if it is safe to do so.
If you plan to stay at the shelter, please bring an extra pillow, blanket, or sleeping bag if available.

****UPDATE****
The subject has been located and is safe. Thank you to the public for your assistance with calls and tips. Thank you to ACCPD, ACCFD National EMS and Oglethorpe County Sheriff's Office K9 and anyone else involved in the search as well.

We are currently attempting to locate a subject in the Five Points area. We need to locate the subject for medical reasons. White male, long sleeve white shirt with black vest and white pants. The subject is not wanted on any criminal charges. THERE IS NO DANGER TO THE PUBLIC. There is a heavier than normal public safety presence in Winterville near the Five Points area at the intersection of Athens Road and Main Street. Please use caution when traveling through the area. If possible avoid the area to save time on your routes and to keep the safety of those public safety professionals in mind. More updates will comes as we receive them.
