Good news about the playground at Pittard Park!
Thanks to a generous grant from the Georgia Civitan Foundation and The Winterville Civitan Club, we will have a new inclusive merry-go-round, sensory panel and spinning chair along with a new rubberized surface installed where the old merry-go-round was located (Phase 1). We will also have a new inclusive flexx swing installed next to the existing swings with a rubberized surface underneath (Phase 2).
I worked with Councilperson Timothy Pierce-Tomlin on this grant and submitted it back in March. We were awarded the grant in June. The equipment has been ordered and installation is expected to be completed by the end of September.
The total project cost is $132,951. The Georgia Civitan Club contributed $62,500, the Winterville Civitan Club contributed $39,000, and the City of Winterville contributed the remaining $31,451 using SPLOST 2020 funds.
Huge thanks to everyone who helped make this happen, including our Public Works department who helped us reduce the total cost by handling the demolition, Winterville Civitan president Ray Marden for presenting our application to the grant committee, the Georgia Civitan Foundation and the Winterville Civitan Club for their generous donations, and our Mayor and City Council who supported this project every step of the way including approving the SPLOST 2020 funds needed to cover the remaining cost.
Our Mayor and City Council are working on another grant to replace the larger sections of the playground (Phases 3 and 4) and make other park improvements. We hope to find out if we are awarded that grant by the end of the year. If we don't get the second grant, we will continue to work to secure funding to do Phases 3 and 4, which will result in a complete renovation and replacement of all playground equipment.
