Today, we honor Juneteenth a powerful reminder of freedom, resilience, and the continued pursuit of equity.
As we reflect on this important day, we recognize that true freedom includes access to safe housing, economic opportunity, and the resources families need to thrive. Every family deserves the stability to build a brighter future.
At Family Promise of Greater Orlando, we remain committed to helping families overcome homelessness and create lasting pathways to independence.

When we talk about homelessness, it’s important to remember that many of those affected are children.
More than 8,000 Orange County Public Schools students have been identified as experiencing homelessness, the highest number in the state of Florida. These children may be living in motels, staying with relatives, or facing other forms of housing instability.
Additionally, more than 2,800 people experience homelessness on any given night across Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties, including parents, children, and entire families.
Family homelessness is not just a housing issue, it is a community issue. By working together, we can help families remain stable and ensure children have safe, secure places to call home.

Our Back to School Bash is next month! 🎒
We’re excited to announce our 7th Annual Back to School Bash, happening on Saturday, July 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Orlando (1199 Clay St, Winter Park, FL 32789).
This event brings families together each year to prepare for the school year ahead. Last year, we served over 100 families and distributed more than 300 backpacks. This year, we’re working toward providing 400 backpacks to local children.
We’re also inviting community organizations and businesses to join us as vendors. It’s a great opportunity to connect with families, share resources, and be part of a fun and meaningful day.

We’re grateful for Deloitte and their continued support of our mission. From volunteering with us in the past to returning again last week, their team continues to show up in meaningful ways.
Deloitte lent a helping hand with deep cleaning, repairs, and projects around our shelter and garden, helping create safe, welcoming spaces for the families we serve.

Today, on International Day of Families, we recognize the importance of strong, supported families and the role community plays in helping them thrive.
At Family Promise of Greater Orlando, we work every day to support families experiencing homelessness and financial hardship by providing shelter, resources, case management, and compassionate care. We know that homelessness is not a personal failure it is often the result of unexpected life circumstances, rising costs, and systemic challenges many families face every day.
Every family that comes to us deserves dignity, stability, and the opportunity to rebuild their future. We are grateful for our staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners who continue helping families move from crisis to sustainable housing and self-sufficiency.

Community Learning Lab Launch!

We launched our first Community Learning Lab on April 30 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in support of our Stabilization program, bringing families together for an evening focused on practical skills and connection.

Families in our Stabilization and Shelter programs learned how to cook on a budget, use couponing strategies to stretch grocery dollars, and better understand available resources. At the same time, kids gained hands-on lessons about growing food and where it comes from, connecting those ideas back to everyday life.

More than anything, the night was about community‑building and creating space to learn and grow together.

Thank you to everyone who made this possible. We’re excited to continue the series in June!
