🚨 STAGE 1 FIRE RESTRICTIONS BEGIN TODAY, JUNE 12, 2026 AT NOON 🚨

Due to increasing fire danger and drying conditions, Stage 1 Fire Restrictions will take effect throughout Grand County beginning at 12:00 PM on June 12, 2026.

Under Stage 1 restrictions, campfires are only allowed in developed campgrounds and picnic areas with permanent fire rings, as well as approved fire pits, fireplaces, and grills at private residences.

Dispersed campfires, burn barrels, and other activities that pose an increased wildfire risk are *NOT ALLOWED.*

⚠️ Violations will result in a $1,000 fine.

As we head into the summer fire season, we ask all residents and visitors to use extra caution and help prevent human caused wildfires. One spark is all it takes.

Our most recent training brought a little competition out of our firefighters. We are calling it the Engineering Olympics! Three timed events designed to put real time pressure to perform a task that an actual incident will demand of our firefighters.

1. Aerial ladder deployment, roof operations, and searching the building.
2. Moving large amounts of water between portable tanks using drafting procedures. This tactic is deployed in non hydrant areas where we bring the water to the fire.
3. Connecting to a hydrant and deploying a master stream, a tactic used to put a quick knockdown on a fully involved structure fire when you have a reliable water source.

Congratulations to Captain Starr, Engineer Spiewak, Firefighter Cravens (Engineer in Training), and Firefighter Sfetsas for your great performance on all three events!

Training in action today!

Our crews focused on pump operations utilizing both draft pond and hydrant water supply sources, sharpening their ability to adapt in real-world scenarios. We also practiced smooth transitions between tank water and pressurized water sources to maintain uninterrupted fire flow.

Additionally, teams trained on aerial and hose operations, reinforcing precision and coordination when delivering large volumes of water.

Continuous training ensures we’re always ready to protect and serve our community when called upon.

Training Never Stops 🔥

The past few months we have been working on many different aspects of scenario based trainings. A big thank you to the Volunteer Liaison Committee for bringing the past few months’ together and hosting this week’s training.

This week’s focus: Live Fire Training, VEIS (Vent, Enter, Isolate, Search), and sharpening the skills that matter when seconds count.

There’s no substitute for realistic, high-stress training. Getting repositions under live fire conditions pushes decision making, reinforces muscle memory, and builds the confidence needed to perform when it counts.

VEIS continues to be a critical tactic—giving us the ability to quickly locate and isolate potential victims while controlling the environment. It’s fast, deliberate, and demands precision.

Every evolution, every repetition, every critique is part of the bigger picture: being better for the community we serve and each other. Several members of Grand Fire Protection District No. 1 participated, helping to strengthen mutual aid bonds.

We don’t rise to the occasion—we fall back on our training. So we will continue to train hard.

Auto Extrication Training ✅
Electric Vehicle Familiarization ✅

As vehicles evolve, so does our training. Last night members of East Grand Fire hosted Winter Park Transit and the new Electric Bus! Members got an overview of the newly acquired electric bus, inside and out. This helps all first responders be better prepared for an incident involving new and emerging technologies.

Crews then transitioned into a colder environment to hone their auto extrication skills. Stabilization techniques, patient care, and scene safety were just a few of the items from last nights training. We strive to be at our best to be prepared for anything we may encounter on or off the roadway.
