After 30 Years of Dedicated Service, Local Law Enforcement Officer Retires.

After more than two decades as a Winter Park Police Officer, Javier Rodriguez recently celebrated retirement, following a tremendous career. While some know him as a school resource officer, others know him from his work in community service. He's Batman on Halloween and wears his famous Christmas pantsuit for the holidays. He's widely known through his work in numerous community programs - including the establishment of a food restock program and efforts to help seniors. Javier has done it all and refused to look the other way when someone needed help.

In addition to the community work, he is credited with keeping Winter Park a safer community. He has been awarded several distinguished honors, including one for the apprehension of a student with a firearm, the apprehension of two armed robbery suspects and tracked down a stolen vehicle in the last days on the job. Javier served as a hostage negotiator, a school resource officer, and was on the honor guard. He established the department's CISM program - a program that supports officers who respond to the most heinous calls (the death of a child, shootings, etc.).

We wish Javier the best in his new chapter and we thank him.

UPDATE: All lanes on Howell Branch Road has been reopened. The driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital and is being evaluated for any injuries. Our traffic investigators will be conducting further investigation into the cause of the crash.

Traffic Alert: Please avoid the area of Howell Branch Road, Between Via Tuscany and S Thistle Lane. Both directions of travel will be closed until further notice as we are currently at the scene of a vehicle roll over crash.

This is an exciting time to join the WPPD, and to do so in a role that directly helps others, as well as first responders. WPPD dispatchers serve both police and fire departments, along with provide support to the non-emergency line within the city.

‼️Dogs Found‼️ Who's missing these two cuties? Pups (one male and one female) were picked up by officers earlier today. They were found on Swoop Ave. They are safe with us for now, they have collars, but no tags or microchips.
