CIL in Central Florida We are a private, non-profit organization that was founded by Central Floridians dedicated to helping people with disabilities.

CIL is a cross-disability service agency with a mission to create opportunities for disability inclusion. It serves individuals with any type of disability of any age residing in Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Polk, Hardee, Highlands, and DeSoto counties. CIL has two office locations dedicated to serving the Central Florida region, each of which have specific programs and services available to their surrounding community.

Independence is powerful, but it is not always free.

For many people with disabilities in Central Florida, independence
can mean a ramp to safely leave home, a shower chair to bathe without fear, a widened doorway, or job training that creates a path toward employment.

Through our Foundations to Freedom program, we are changing that by providing accessible housing solutions, home modifications, and independent living support across Central Florida.

This weekend, we pause to honor the service members who gave everything in defense of our country and the freedoms we are grateful for each day.

Their bravery, sacrifice, and commitment will never be forgotten. This Memorial Day, we remember them with deep respect and gratitude.

At just 31 years old, Lance’s life took an unexpected and life-altering turn. After years of uncertainty, he was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder that affects the nervous system and significantly impacts mobility. By the time answers came, Lance was already relying on a wheelchair to navigate daily life.

As a single father raising his son and daughter, he continues to show incredible resilience, balancing health challenges, a recent gap in medical insurance, and the responsibility of caring for his family.

When Lance connected with the Center for Independent Living Central Florida, he had one goal:
To safely enter and exit his own home.

Through our Foundations to Freedom program, and in partnership with dedicated volunteers from the Lakeland Chamber of Commerce, work is now underway to repair his 31-foot wooden ramp, restoring safe access to his home.

Stories like Lance’s remind us that while challenges are inevitable, no one should have to face them alone. This is the power of accessible housing, independent living support, and community-driven impact.
