🌺 POPPY HISTORY: FROM THE FIELDS TO THE PROMISE
Part 1 | In Flanders Fields
Before the poppy became something we wore, distributed, or held in our hands, it grew among the battlefields of World War I.
In 1915, Canadian physician and soldier Lt. Col. John McCrae wrote In Flanders Fields after the death of a fellow soldier. His words captured the image of red poppies growing among the graves of the fallen.
Those poppies would come to represent something much greater than a flower—remembrance, sacrifice, and a promise not to forget.
Over the coming weeks, we'll follow the remarkable journey of the poppy from the battlefields of Flanders to the symbol of remembrance and service we carry forward today.

Here's an amazing learning opportunity for all our members - please put September 26th on your calendar and plan to attend our 6th District Auxiliary Basic Concepts (ABC) School. All Legion Family members are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Unit members, Marge, Terry, and Nell joined Post 112's new Commander, Leslie Beltz, on August 11th for the Legion meeting that welcomed our Girls State and Boys State delegates as they shared their exciting adventures in Tallahassee. Past Commander Jim Middlekauff shared an award our Sons Squadron received at installation for completing the National Commander's Challenge for 2025-2026, the only Squadron in Florida to earn this recognition. The Winter Park Memorial American Legion Post 112 congratulated our Auxiliary Unit on our 18th birthday and the Auxiliary provided birthday cakes as we celebrated the birthday of the US Coast Guard.
