May saw Nell and Marge presenting Scholastic Achievement and Americanism Essay Contest certificates and medals at five elementary schools in Orange and South Seminole Counties.

Over the last several months, our Unit has been actively searching for qualified candidates to receive the National American Legion Auxiliary Good Deed Award. Several nominations were made in late September 2025 and the certificates were received in early December. One award recipient is locared in Ohio and his Good Deed was his service project for his Scouting America Eagle project. The other two young men are both Eagle Scouts from Winter Park Troop 613. We presented the Winter Park awards at their Troop Court of Honor in early May. Marge and Nell were joined by Department Leadership Chair, Penny Kanbara, for the presentation.

In late February, we interviewed seven amazing young ladies from several local high schools who were interested in attending Girls State this summer. We selected 2 delegates and 2 alternates.

The annual Post 112 Four Chaplains Ceremony was held on 2/1 at the First Baptist Church of Winter Park. Commander Jim Middlekauff was the MC and Post 112 Chaplain Billy was the Keynote Speaker. Auxiliary Chaplain, Debi acted as one of the Chaplains honored in the ceremony.

We had the pleasure of hosting the 2025-2026 American Legion National Commander on January 30th. Our entire Legion Family was well represented; we even had a number of members attending via Zoom. We presented FL Department Commander Jessics a $250 check to support her special project for the year, Special Olympics. Our Auxiliary Unit presented to Post 112 Commander Middlekauff a piece of art work done by one of the artists who participated in the 2025 MOAA Creative Arts Festival project.

Marge and I had the distinct honor today to represent the Winter Park Memorial American Legion Auxiliary Unit 112 as we presented a $2500 grant from the National American Legion Auxiliary Foundation to the Central Florida Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) for their Veterans "Healing Through Expression" program that serves the Central Florida Veteran community. The mission of this program is to increase the awareness in the local community of the healing powers of creative art.
