As we continue installing our new canal signs throughout the Chain of Lakes, we’re excited to share what the completed signage will look like. We appreciate the community’s patience as we have worked through the process of receiving materials, completing the necessary approvals, and coordinating the addition of the new “Idle Zone” signs in partnership with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. A helpful reminder for boaters, under Polk County Ordinance 2025-032, canals are designated Idle Zones and are enforceable whether an Idle Zone sign is present or not. The new signs will provide an additional visual reminder to help promote safe and responsible boating throughout our waterways. We are now approximately two-thirds complete with installation across The Chain of Lakes and will continue rolling out the remaining signs as scheduled. Thank you for your patience as we complete this project and for helping us keep our canals and lakes safe for everyone. We hope you have a great weekend, enjoy the lakes, and boat safely.

After seeing a post about potential debris in the Lake Conine canal heading towards the locks, our crew jumped in to investigate and did find a tire and piece of vinyl siding. Thank you for continuing to reach out and tagging us in posts. We hope everyone has a great weekend on the water.

Shipp/Lulu Canal Piling update!!! In a great show of community support, Whitehead Construction and His Way Creations Inc., reached out yesterday and wanted to assist in taking care of these pilings. This morning we were able to jet the sand out around the pilings and cut them off below the lake bed so nothing is sticking up above the sand. A big thank you goes out to Todd, Gus and their crew at His Way Creations inc. as well as Nathan with Whitehead Construction for bringing this all together. Winter Haven is a truly great community to work and live in. Please still trim up if you are capable and try to stick to the middle of the canals whenever possible. Please be aware of a new sign added in the Shipp-Lulu Canal. There is old bridge piling that is over 20ft deep into the sand and clay and in lower lake levels the top of this piling can be hit and easily damage a prop. The “Submerged Object” post is installed directly against this piling so please avoid this area as much as possible. We have tried to remove this piling to no avail. There is still plenty of room to safely make your way through the canal on each side.

Our team has successfully walked and cleared The Northern Chain Canals, Haines-Rochelle, Rochelle-Conine, Conine-Smart, and The Locks-Conine. While we removed hundreds of pounds of material please keep in mind that it’s never perfect, so trim up if possible and stay at an idle speed. In anticipation of Memorial Day Weekend and with continuously decreasing canal levels, our team have successfully walked and cleared all canals on the Southern Chain as of Friday 5/22. Finding multiple large stumps and sticks, a bike, barrels, and numerous tires the canals have been cleared to the best of our ability. This is not to say everything is perfect. So please trim up and follow best boating practices when going through canals. Have a Happy Memorial Day Weekend from Lake Region Lakes Management District.
