Winter Harbor Public Library

Winter Harbor Public Library The stones of the building are local field and beach stones collected by townspeople to build this chapel.

Winter Harbor Public Library, located in a beautiful, historic former chapel, serves the residents of Winter Harbor, Maine, as well as the greater Schoodic Peninsula area and seasonal visitors. Housed in a former chapel built in 1888, the Winter Harbor Public Library contains a collection of almost 8000 books in print and serves both the year-aound and summer communities of this downeast Maine town. Today, the library is part of the Maine State Library system.

The Association for Rural & Small Libraries (ARSL) holds an annual Spring Photo Contest, where small and rural libraries are encouraged to provide photos capturing outstanding or everyday moments that represent the library. This year's winners were each from Maine!

The first place award was given to the Southport Memorial Library, for the photo titled "Newly Donated Books". Director Casey Martin "captured the joy of sharing new donated books with the weekly coffee group — a perfect snapshot of community connection."

The second place award went to the Ellsworth Public Library for celebrating 32 years of service from custodian Edmund Murray and "honors the quiet dedication that keeps our libraries running."

The Camden Public Library received the third place award for its photo titled "Plant Sale," taking place in the Camden Amphitheatre adjacent to the library, sharing the vitality of the community space.

Congratulations to these three libraries!

What is International Museum Day? Monday May 18

International Museum Day is a worldwide observance dedicated to raising awareness about the value and importance of museums in society. The day encourages people to visit museums, learn about their heritage, and understand how museums help preserve human history and culture.

Support the Winter Harbor Historical Society Museum and help them preserve our history.

Museums are much more than buildings filled with ancient objects. They are places where stories from the past come alive, helping people understand civilizations, traditions, science, and human creativity. - https://observanceguide.com/international-museum-day-2026/ #:~:text=Every%20year%20on%20May%2018%2C,history%2C%20culture%2C%20art%2C%20and%20knowledge.
