Trailer "evicted" by the City of Winter Garden has a new home in New Smyrna Beach. Yes, an old trailer can be evicted ... just like an old person! It has already costs the City an estimated $17,000 to "recover" $1,000 in DISPUTED "back rent" so that ZERO rent can be collected in the future and the CITY itself subject to maybe a $100,000 lawsuit by one or more STATE Agencies .... your tax dollars at work!!

Yikes!!
Where is the SMART HOMES for VETS sign left in the window identifying the OWNER OF THIS TRAILER?
WHY is this trailer being extracted from Trailer City when the PRIOR OWNER, not a current Resident or Leaseholder is attempting to amiably settle the amount of "unpaid rent" from a SQUATTER, that he, NOT the CITY had removed?
Why is the $ value of this trailer being destroyed when a PRIOR OWNER deposited $2,000 with the Court so that a JUDGE could decide what, if any, "rent" there was when the old owner had no possession of either the LOT, nor the Trailer and NO lease?

A City Transformed ... a Landmark being neglected?

Trailer City is an integral part of the heritage of Winter Garden. But Winter Garden has NOT invested in developing a plan for moving Trailer City forward ... the core of Trailer City is horribly over-crowded. The absense of a credentialed and totally professional manager of Trailer City (combined with paternalistic oversight by the City itself) is beginning to wear paper thin for some of the newer residents.

Rents are astonishly low in Trailer City ... a great thing for most residents, but this not an excuse for failure to meet the obligations of the City ... as a landlord ... to "maintain housing up to existing building, housing and health codes" as mandated by Florida Statute 83.51.

A "SMART Home for Vets" coming to Trailer City? Winter Garden is already the community host to wonderfully equipped "1st Generation SMART Home" for a very deserving Army Vet severely injured while serving his country.

Dr Dallas DeFee, a Veteran himself, donated his trailer at 2 Gardenia to a new nonprofit founded to add the latest digital technology to traditional Smart Homes ... Hopefully the City will support this effort.

Mobile Home Sellers beware!

The remarkably low lot rent in Trailer City makes owning a mobile home (aka "trailer") here a financial prize far beyond the nominal values of some of the older homes. This also creates an opportunity and incentive for "title scams" of various types, eg a senior resident who is trusting & legally naive puts a "friend" on the trailer title without a signed purchase agreement, then discovers that the "friend" simply doesn't pay him as promised.

Two key facts about Trailer City:
(1) The City of Winter Garden owns the land and public facilities within and close to the Park. This makes the City a landlord for the residents.
