The African American Caucus of Forsyth County will hold its first Fall 2026 meeting on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at 6:30 p.m.

We have an important evening planned with information, updates, and community conversation.

The agenda will include:

An update from Lift Every Vote on Souls to the Polls activities and the Forsyth County voter pledge-card initiative
Updates and remarks from Congressional candidates regarding the 2026 election and issues affecting our community
Discussion of upcoming fundraising activities
Caucus priorities, upcoming events, and opportunities for members to stay engaged

Whether you have been involved for years or are interested in learning more about the Caucus, you are welcome to join us.

Community Notice: Legends Ball Rescheduled for Fall 2026

The African American Caucus of Forsyth County extends its sincere appreciation to our community, supporters, sponsors, honorees, and everyone who has expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming Legends Ball.

After thoughtful consideration, we have decided to move the event originally scheduled for August 15, 2026 to a new date this fall. This adjustment will allow us to strengthen the program, expand community participation, and create an even more meaningful celebration honoring Dr. Virginia K. Newell and Evelyn Terry for their extraordinary leadership, service, and lasting impact on Forsyth County.

We are grateful for the encouragement and support already received. All previously purchased tickets will remain valid for the rescheduled event, and the new date and additional details will be announced soon.

Thank you for your understanding, partnership, and continued commitment to celebrating the people whose courage, vision, and service have helped shape our community. We look forward to gathering with you this fall for an inspiring and memorable evening.

Our community’s voice matters — and one of the most powerful ways we protect our future is through the ballot box.

Please join us in supporting a community-led, non-partisan effort to celebrate and increase Black voter participation in Forsyth County for the 2026 election cycle.

Local Black voter turnout in the last midterm election was significantly lower than white voter turnout. This effort is focused on changing that by increasing Black turnout by 6,000 voters and helping raise participation to 50%.

We are calling on churches, civic organizations, nonprofits, coalitions, corporations, and community members to get involved.

This is about empowerment.
This is about community.
This is about making sure every voice is heard.

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth—the day that marks the true enforcement of freedom for enslaved African Americans in Texas on June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.
Juneteenth is more than a historical milestone; it is a testament to the resilience, strength, faith, and perseverance of generations who endured unimaginable hardships while never giving up hope for freedom and equality.
As we reflect on the sacrifices of our ancestors, we also honor their legacy by continuing the work of building stronger communities, advancing justice, expanding opportunity, and ensuring that every voice is heard.
The Forsyth County African American Caucus proudly joins communities across the nation in commemorating this important day. May we celebrate our history, embrace our culture, and recommit ourselves to the ongoing pursuit of equity and unity.

Why Voting for District Attorney Matters
The District Attorney (DA) has a significant impact on our neighborhoods, families, and future. While many people focus on presidential or gubernatorial elections, the DA makes decisions every day that affect how justice is administered in our community.
The DA determines:
Which criminal cases are prosecuted.
How victims of crime are supported.
Whether alternatives to incarceration are used for non-violent offenders.
How juvenile offenders are treated and rehabilitated.
How fairly laws are enforced across all communities.
The relationship between law enforcement and the public.
For African American communities, the District Attorney's office plays a critical role in ensuring equal justice under the law, reducing disparities in the criminal justice system, and promoting public safety while protecting civil rights. The DA can champion transparency, accountability, and fair treatment for all residents regardless of race, income, or neighborhood.
Every vote for District Attorney is a vote for the type of justice system we want in Forsyth County. It is an opportunity to support leadership that understands the community, values fairness, and is committed to building trust between citizens and the legal system.

As we prepare to celebrate Juneteenth, I invite you to join me for an evening of reflection, community, and conversation about the future of justice and opportunity in Forsyth County.

Please join Retired Judge Denise Hartsfield as she hosts a special Juneteenth Celebration featuring Amara Hunter, Democratic Candidate for Forsyth County District Attorney.
