Due to increased wildfire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.

The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within those 100 feet.

It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of one of our own, Deputy Kaleb Mitchell, a Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office deputy. Transitioned while serving and protecting this morning, March 7th, 2026, in a motor vehicle accident. We ask for prayers from the community for his family, as well as The FCSO family. As more information becomes available, we will share it at such time.

Later today, we will have a memorial in front of the Sheriff's Office, located at 301 N. Church St. The community is welcome and encouraged to pay their respects.

“What greater love than a man's service for his community? Willing to lay down his life for others. We serve. We serve. We serve.” - Sheriff Bobby F. Kimbrough Jr.

Four years ago today, we said goodbye to our brother, Brian Huffman, after his courageous battle with cancer. August 12, 2021, changed our firehouse forever, but the strength, dedication, and heart Brian showed still guide us every day. His laughter, his wisdom, and his unwavering spirit remain a part of who we are. Today, we honor the firefighter, the friend, and the family we found in him. Brian, your legacy lives on in every call we answer and every life we touch. We miss you deeply and carry you with us always.
