Bulky Item Season is upon us!! LYou can only put items out during your assigned pick up week. If you put them out too soon you can get fined. Check with City Link 311, or the post card in the mail for your collection date. If hou haven’t already, now is a good time to download the “WS Collects” App. The app provides information for trash, brush, and leaf collection.

The city’s annual bulky item collection service begins March 2 and will run through Sept. 4, 2026.

🏠 This service is for single-family residences, not businesses or apartments. Townhomes/condos will receive service, place items in a central location.

📬 Look out for a postcard saying when to expect pickup on your street, or go to the webpage linked in our bio and scroll to the “Online Address Search” to find your collection date.

❓What items are and aren’t collected? Go to the link in bio (or in the comments) to check before you put things out.

🚛 Crews will go through each neighborhood only once. To ensure collection, items must be at the curb by 6 a.m. the Monday of your collection week.

❗️Missed your collection date? Items can always be disposed of at the Hanes Mill Road Landfill, Monday-Friday 7 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m.-noon.

FREE LEAF MULCH is back with the City of Winston-Salem, NC - Government

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities has announced the annual leaf mulch giveaway for Forsyth County homeowners. Free leaf mulch will only be available on a first-come, first-served basis starting Good Friday, April 18, and will continue while supplies last on Saturdays, April 19, April 26 and May 3. Operators will load your vehicle from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Forum 52 Yard Waste Facility, 180 Northstar Dr. in Rural Hall.

Note: If you do not bring a tarp to fully cover your mulch before leaving the site, your vehicle will not be loaded. Free mulch is only for Forsyth County homeowners in cars and pickup trucks with or without trailers. Large vehicles over one ton will not be allowed to receive mulch under any circumstances. Homeowners who hire contractors to haul mulch for residential use must follow all vehicle guidelines listed above.
