Did you know that June is both Men's Mental Health Awareness Month and Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month?

Did you also know that in recent studies, men now make up closer to 40% of American caregivers?

Unfortunately, these studies have also shown that male caregivers are less likely to openly talk about the stress of caregiving or seek help through resources or community support. This can often lead to stress-related conditions including depression, high blood pressure, anxiety, and more.

It is important to remember that you are not alone! At Senior Services, caregivers have access to support like:

Remember to be kind to your mind, it's ok to ask for help!

"I can't be happy if I'm not giving happiness to others."

After nearly a year of volunteering, Mary has become a steady, joyful presence, building meaningful connections with participants, staff, and fellow volunteers.

Inspired by her career in nursing and by her grandmother’s time at the Williams Adult Day Center, Mary brings both compassion and personal understanding to every interaction.

She shows up ready to listen, helping turn small moments of care into something bigger: connection, community, and a place where older adults are met with a smiling face and the question, “How can I help you?”

You can help give happiness alongside volunteers like Mary. Learn how at bit.ly/SSI_volunteer.

Did you know that 665,424 (26%) of older adults in North Carolina live alone?
Research has shown that social isolation and loneliness are contributing factors to many mental and physical health challenges.

At Senior Services, we know that every Meals-on-Wheels delivery is more than just the meal itself. It is the personal connection and safety check that 98.7% of participants report as important, and something they count on every weekday.

“When we have encountered caregiving questions or health setbacks, we have received additional support to help my mom live a healthy and fulfilled life. We would not be able to do this without the help of the Williams Center and our Living-at-Home case manager." -Participant Care Partner

Living-at-Home case managers help assess participants' needs, answer questions, and advocate for access to resources/services. Sometimes that can include a referral to one of our other programs, like the Williams Center, so that older adults can continue to live "healthy and fulfilled" lives.
