Hey everyone! Check out this community service opportunity working with Small Farms Week!

Community Service Opportunity for NCAT Small Farms Week 2021

According to Feeding America, there are about 1,456,200 people in North Carolina that are struggling with hunger and of that 1 million people 443, 040 are children. Meaning that every 1 in 7 adults and 1 in 5 children struggle with hunger, food insecurity, and lack of basic need items (2018). These numbers have increased greatly due to the COVID- 19 pandemic; resulting in more families in need of basic food and personal need items in our community.

The Extension at North Carolina A&T State University wants to share our agriculture community’s harvest with those in need. The Cooperative Extension at North Carolina A&T State University has challenged county N.C. Cooperative Extension staff to work with their volunteers, advisory council members, 4-H youth, and community partners to collect non-perishable food items or hygiene items from Jan. 15 to Feb. 15, 2021.

The items that are collected will be shared with a local food bank in the Winston-Salem/ Forsyth County area. These items may be dropped off outside of the Agriculture Building located at 1450 Fairchild Rd. Winston-Salem, NC 27105. If you have any questions you may contact, Dr. Monique Pearce-Brady, [email protected] or Shae King, MS, [email protected], or by phone at 336-703-2850. Thank you for helping us combat food insecurity in the community!
