Winsted Area Ambulance Association Official Site

Winsted Ambulance is a volunteer ambulance service covering Winsted/Winchester and surrounding towns.

Winsted Area Ambulance Association (WAAA) was established in 1968 and services the towns of Winsted, Winchester, Barkhamsted, Riverton, Colebrook and West Hartland. Mutual aid is provided to all surrounding towns when needed. WAAA provides Basic Life Support services and is dedicated to the health and well being of our community through continuing education and support. Advanced Life Support servi

ces are added on an as needed by basis through the support of our partners. WAAA can be activated by calling 911 and our response is coordinated through the regional center, Litchfield County Dispatch (LCD). We operate 3 ambulances and a first responder vehicle (fly-car) out of one station located on 655 Main Street. WAAA is a volunteer, non-for profit ambulance organization and we utilize volunteers as well as a staffing agency to fulfill our scheduling needs.

Winsted Ambulance is proud to offer BLS CPR classes on the third Sunday of every month. Whether you’re looking to gain a new skill, renew your certification, or simply be prepared to help in an emergency, our classes provide hands-on training in essential lifesaving techniques.

During the class, participants will practice Adult CPR, Child CPR, and The Heimlich maneuver (choking rescue techniques)! Our experienced instructors guide you through realistic scenarios and provide the confidence and knowledge needed to respond when every second counts.

The other day, Winsted Ambulance received a heartfelt note from a community member expressing gratitude for the care, compassion, and professionalism shown by our EMS providers and first responders during a difficult time.

A heartfelt note like this reminds us why we do what we do. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve our community and appreciate the kind words and support. Thank you to our EMS providers, first responders, and the community members who make Winsted such a special place.

During the month of May, our crews responded to a wide variety of emergency calls throughout the community. Below we provides a view of the types of incidents we were dispatched to. We are proud to serve Winsted and appreciate the dedication of our members, the support of our mutual aid partners, and the trust our community places in us every day.

Winsted Ambulance had a great time at today’s Touch-a-Truck event!

Kids got an up close look at the ambulance and even learned how our stretcher operates. Thank you to everyone who stopped by and spent time with us!

For this month’s Throwback Thursday we want to look back at the history of our ambulances through the years. These photos showcase some of the ambulances that have proudly served our community over time. Each represents a different era of emergency medical care and the dedicated crews behind it .

While so much has changed, from vehicle design and technology to advanced lifesaving equipment , it’s amazing to see the similarities that still remain. From the older units to our newest ambulance, every truck tells a story of service, commitment, and progress. We’re proud of where we came from and excited for the future of EMS in Winsted.

The members of Winsted Ambulance would like to extend our deepest condolences to Carrie Stetsons family during this incredibly difficult time.

Over the years, we have loved spending time at Railway Cafe and have witnessed firsthand the warmth, kindness, and sense of community that Carrie Stetson has brought to Winsted.

As our community mourns this loss, we especially send our love and support to the children, family members, and friends who are grieving. May they find comfort in the countless memories, friendships, and lives that were impacted by their loved ones.
