Town Monitoring Water Quality Following Healthcare SC Fire

08/20/2026 – Winnsboro, South Carolina — The Town of Winnsboro is actively monitoring water quality and the potential impact to the Town’s water supply following the fire at the Healthcare SC facility.

The Town is working closely with the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), whose representatives are currently on scene alongside the responsible party and its environmental contractors. These agencies and contractors are taking appropriate measures to assess the situation and ensure that any potential contaminants from the fire are contained and do not impact the Town’s reservoir or water supply.

At this time, the Town is taking a proactive and precautionary approach. Monitoring and coordination efforts are ongoing, and the Town is relying on the expertise and guidance of SCDES and EPA as the response continues.

Protecting the Town’s drinking water supply is the Town’s highest priority. Town officials will continue to closely monitor the situation and will provide additional information to the public as verified information becomes available.

Residents should rely on official communications from the Town, SCDES, and other responding agencies for updates regarding water quality or any actions that may be necessary.

The Town appreciates the cooperation of the responsible party, emergency responders, SCDES, EPA, and all other agencies and contractors involved in protecting the community and ensuring the Town’s water supply remains safe.

LEVEL 1 DROUGHT CONDITIONS DECLARED
Town of Winnsboro
The Town of Winnsboro is advising residents and businesses that Level 1 drought conditions are currently in effect due to continued dry weather and below-average rainfall affecting the region.
In coordination with state and regional drought management agencies, citizens are encouraged to voluntarily conserve water in order to protect the community’s water supply and reduce the risk of more severe restrictions if drought conditions worsen.
Voluntary Water Conservation Measures
Residents and businesses are encouraged to:
Limit outdoor lawn and landscape watering
Avoid washing driveways, sidewalks, and vehicles unnecessarily
Repair leaking faucets, toilets, and irrigation systems
Operate dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads
Reduce overall non-essential water use
At this time, these measures are voluntary; however, continued conservation is strongly encouraged to help preserve local water resources.
The Town will continue monitoring conditions in cooperation with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and regional drought authorities. Additional restrictions may be implemented if conditions deteriorate.

The Town of Winnsboro is seeking volunteers to serve on the Architectural Review Board established under the Town’s zoning and design standards in alignment with South Carolina Code of Laws Title 6 Chapter 29.
If you care about preserving community character, guiding quality development, and helping shape how our town looks and feels, we encourage you to apply!
What the Board Does
Reviews exterior building changes and new construction in designated districts
Ensures projects meet adopted design guidelines
Helps protect the historic and visual character of our community
Designate individual historic properties and historic districts
Who Should Apply
We welcome residents with interest or experience in:
Architecture or design
Construction or real estate
Historic preservation
Planning or community development
Or simply a passion for our town’s appearance

PUBLIC NOTICE - BOIL WATER NOTICE
The Town of Winnsboro Water Treatment plant is under a boil water notice until further notice due to a contractor error. Town staff caught the issue quickly and is working diligently to mitigate the issue. This is a precautionary boil water notice.

PUBLIC NOTICE: In the Red Sunset Lane area of Cobblestone the Town of Winnsboro will need to temporarily shut off the water starting at 10:30 am to make emergency repairs. The estimated timeline is not known at this time but service will be restored as soon as possible. If a boil water notice is necessary we will post that at a later time.
The October Glory Dr and Primrose Dr areas could also be affected.
