WRFD received a call to fire in the Grass Valley area on Monday morning at 11:15 a.m. the call was for a brush fire behind a home in the area. On arrival crews found several piles of tree debris and a fence on fire. Crews from USWFS (BLM fire) arrived to assist. The home owner received some medical attention for minor burns. All WRFD units were back in service by 12:30 p.m. A reminder the the ban on open burning goes into effect on July 1st.

Shyster Fire Update: Forward progress has been stopped. Containment is now up to 40%. The fire was mapped this morning by helicopter.
Today's Shift Objectives:
Strengthen control lines
Minimize impacts to energy infrastructure and SR140
Conduct mop-up and patrol operations on the fire.

The Shyster Fire is approximately 12 miles south of Denio in Humboldt County, Nevada. The fire was ignited by lightning and is now 5, 000 acres and approximately 10% contained. Multiple helicopters, engines, water tenders and fire fighters are on scene.

Burn Ban in Effect in Humboldt County

Winnemucca Rural Fire Department has announced that all open burning in the Winnemucca Rural Fire District and the Humboldt Fire District is closed beginning July 1, 2026, until further notice.

This ban includes burn barrels.

Manufactured, existing brick, block, or cement fire pits are excluded.

A burn ban is now in effect for residents in the Golconda Fire Protection District, effective June 17, 2026, until further notice.

This ban includes burn barrels.

Manufactured existing brick, block, or cement fire pits are excluded.

Per the US National Wether Service a fast-moving thunderstorms along the northern NV border on Saturday will elevate fire risk. Due to the quick nature of storms, effects of precipitation will be mitigated if/when fire is ignited by lightning.
