Friends, there are some wildfires in our area, but currently no one is under an evacuation order, as this post states. We should be paying attention and ready for weather and fire changes, but tonight we are doing ok. Educate yourselves on the warning system and stand by. All our local emergency services will work together to get you accurate information as you need it. We know there is a lot of information floating around that can be confusing. We will work toward more accurate and focused information sources.

โ€ข Conditions remain dry, and more lightning is expected today and tonight. New lightning strikes and changing winds could start new fires or cause existing fires to grow.

โ€ข Keep your phone charged and watch for official updates.
โ€ข Review your evacuation plan and know more than one way out of your area.
โ€ข Keep medications, important documents, pet supplies, and other essentials where you can grab them quickly.
โ€ข Check on your neighbors, especially older adults, people with disabilities, people who live alone, and anyone without reliable internet access or emergency alert resources.
โ€ข Make sure pets and livestock are part of your evacuation plan.
โ€ข Stay out of active fire areas and keep drones grounded. Drones near wildfires put firefighters and aircraft at risk.
โ€ข If you see a new fire or smoke from a possible new fire, call 911.
โ€ข Conditions may change quickly. We will continue to update the community as we learn more.

We have recently become aware of social media discussions regarding an alleged increase in sexual assaults of women in Winnemucca and claims that women are being drugged at local bars.

We want to provide our community with the information we have based on reports made to the Winnemucca Police Department.

Since January 1, 2026, we have received five reports of sexual assault. None of those reports involved a local business, and in each case, the suspect was known to the victim.

Additionally, we have received no reports of women being drugged at a local bar.

Our department has three detectives who work tirelessly to investigate every reported sexually based crime. These investigations are taken seriously, and our detectives work diligently to identify those responsible and seek justice for victims.

We understand that information shared on social media can cause concern, and we believe our community deserves accurate information. The Winnemucca Police Department strives to be as transparent as possible while also respecting the privacy of victims, their families, and others involved in investigations.

Not every crime is a threat to the community at large. Many incidents are isolated, and releasing information about them can sometimes compromise an investigation or unnecessarily expose the privacy of those involved. When there is a danger to the community or when we need the public's assistance in solving a crime, we will communicate that information.

We live and work in this community, just like you. We want Winnemucca to be the safest and most enjoyable community it can be.

If you have information about a crime, or if you have a concern about something you have seen or experienced, please reach out to us. We can't investigate what we don't know about.

If you see something, say something.

We are seeking to establish a hiring list for future vacancies.
