Fire crews advised at 7:12PM these wildfires are under control.

**Update at 4PM March 26th 2026**

Crews are still working on wildfires in this area. Currently there are no evacuation orders. However, stay aware and prepared to leave quickly if it becomes necessary. We will update this post if there is an additional information.

March 26th 2026 at 2PM

Several fast-moving wildfires have been reported near US 77 between 82nd and 132nd (North of Winfield).

Drivers should slow down and use caution, as smoke may reduce visibility. Please pay attention to first responders who are working to control the fires.

Residents in the area should stay alert, know evacuation routes and be prepared to leave if conditions worsen, and follow local alerts.

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a Red Flag
Warning for extreme grassland fire danger, which is in effect
from 11 AM to 8 PM CST Thursday.

* Extreme Grassland Fire Danger...

* Winds...West 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.

* Relative Humidity...As low as 15 to 20 percent.

* Impacts...Any fires that develop will have the potential to
spread quickly and behave erratically.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures
can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

Winter Weather Forecast - Thursday January 22, 2026

As of 3:00 AM this morning, the US National Weather Service Wichita Kansas has updated the forecast for winter storm weather that will impact Cowley County over the weekend.

Friday afternoon should bring snow into our region around 4:00 PM. Snow should continue through the weekend into the early morning hours of Sunday. There is a high chance we will see snow accumulation over 8" all through the region.

In addition to the snow, wind chills will reach dangerously low levels, and caution should be used if going outside. Layering of warm clothing and covering exposed skin should be a priority.

In the case of an emergency or severe weather, that may impact the festival location, this service is used to notify those who have opted in via text message.

At the end of the festival your phone number deletes from the system and you will receive no further notifications.

This is a free service provided by Cowley County.

Are you camping at the Cowley County Fairgrounds while your kids are showing their animals for 4H? Are you working at the fair, selling crafts or working a food booth? Do you plan to check out the demo derby, figure 8 races, music, and rodeo?

If so, signing up for the Cowley County 2025 4H and Fair Emergency Alerts is the best way to get emergency notifications fast. Alerts may be issued for severe weather, missing persons, law enforcement activity, or other emergencies impacting safety in the fairgrounds or immediate area.

The Cowley Alerts system is a free service provided by Cowley County. Your phone number is automatically deleted from the system on Wednesday August 6, 2025, at noon.

Road Closure - July 21, 2025

From Cowley County Public Works

322nd Road, between 61st Road and 77th Road, will be closed July 22, 2025, from 07:00 AM to 05:00 PM.

This closure is to fix a culvert and roadway surface and is scheduled to take one day.

Traffic can reroute around this closure by traveling 326th Road between 61st Road and 77th Road.
