A Day in the Life of a Fireman

On paper, it may look like this: morning truck checks, pre-planning, cleaning, organizing, ground and station upkeep, lunch, physical exercise, fueling trucks, and training.

But we can promise you this: no two days ever look the same.

While the community often sees firefighters responding to emergencies, much of the job happens behind the scenes.

Every truck is carefully set up to meet the specific needs of the community it serves, and firefighters train constantly to know every tool, hose, and piece of equipment inside and out.

Some of what you’re seeing here includes truck checks, pump training, and re-racking hose lines, but it’s all part of a much bigger mission.

It’s our duty to ensure we are always ready for any call. Because when an emergency happens, there’s no time to search, guess, or hesitate.

In case you missed it, these are our newest hires at Putnam County Fire Service, standing alongside Captain Jamie Burgess.

These individuals represent our first full-time group of hires, and we hope you’ll help us give them a warm welcome as they help protect our community! 🔥👏
