The Windsor Police Department has received several reports of a bear in Windsor. While it’s always exciting to see wildlife, give it plenty of space. The bear is most likely just passing through and would much rather avoid people.

If you see the bear, follow these BearWise Basics:
💠Do not approach or feed it. Feeding bears can cause them to lose their natural fear of people and create dangerous situations for both people and wildlife.

💠Secure your trash and bring pet food and bird feeders indoors to help prevent unwanted bear visits.

💠Keep pets leashed and supervise them while outdoors.

💠If it gets too close, make yourself look big, use a loud, firm voice, and make loud noises to encourage it to leave.

💠Do not try to take selfies with it and keep your distance. Give the bear plenty of space.

If the bear is behaving aggressively or poses an immediate threat to public safety, call 911. Non-aggressive sightings can be reported to the local Colorado Parks and Wildlife office at 970-472-4300.

September is National Preparedness Month.

Being prepared means knowing how to receive important information when it matters most. One of the easiest ways to be prepared is to sign up for emergency alerts.

Windsor is unique because our community falls within both Weld and Larimer Counties, which means you can sign up for two alert systems.

NOCO Alert covers Larimer County emergency alerts, and CodeRED covers Weld County emergency alerts.

We encourage Windsor residents to sign up for both systems, regardless of which county you live in. Having access to both alert systems helps ensure you receive critical information about emergencies, severe weather, evacuations, and other important information.

TRAFFIC ALERT — Harvest Festival Parade Route Road Closures

Please be aware of the following road closures beginning Monday, Sept. 7 at 8:00 AM for the Harvest Festival Parade:
Walnut St. will be closed from Hwy 257 to 7th St.
7th St. will be closed from Main St. to Eastman Park Dr.

To detour around these road closures, use Hwy 392 and Hwy 257 as shown on the map.

Please do not reserve space along the parade route until 6:00 AM Monday morning, the day of the parade. When reserving space, please be mindful not to block the sidewalk.

To access Main Park on Monday, take Hwy 257, turn west on Garden Drive, then turn north on 3rd St. towards Locust St./Main Park.

No parking along the parade route begins at 6:00 AM on Sept. 7.

Thank you for helping keep the parade route safe and accessible for everyone!

The Windsor Police Department has arrested Braden Michael Gilloth (25), of Greeley, Colorado, on 56 felony counts of possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM).

On June 15, 2026, the Windsor Police Department received a cybertip through the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) database identifying a Windsor address associated with the possession or downloading of CSAM.

Following a thorough investigation conducted by Windsor Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID), detectives identified a suspect and determined that, while the cybertip originated at a Windsor address, Gilloth had moved to Greeley prior to the investigation’s start.

A search warrant was executed at Gilloth’s residence, where detectives obtained additional digital evidence supporting charges related to the possession of CSAM.

On August 27, 2026, Gilloth was taken into custody without incident for the following charges:
-56 counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Child—Possession, CRS 18-6-403, a Class 5 Felony.

This arrest is the result of collaboration between the Greeley Police Department, the Weld County District Attorney’s Office, and the Colorado Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.

As a member of the ICAC Task Force, the Windsor Police Department is committed to investigating crimes involving the sexual exploitation of children and identifying individuals who possess or distribute CSAM.

All charges are merely an accusation, and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless, proven guilty. No other details will be released at this time.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Please plan ahead for Harvest Festival traffic changes.

Beginning Friday night at 7 PM, 5th Street will close and remain closed throughout Saturday, Sept. 5.

In addition, parking on CO 257 is not allowed during the fireworks display on Saturday, Sept. 5.

Please plan ahead and use alternate routes to avoid delays and congestion in these areas. Thank you for your patience, and we hope everyone has a safe and happy Harvest Festival!

Have you seen our new permanent Dismount Zone signs downtown?

These zones help create safer, more comfortable spaces for everyone, especially in areas with heavy pedestrian traffic.

When you enter a posted Dismount Zone, you are required to get off and walk your wheels through the designated area.

The map included with this post shows the permanent Dismount Zones located Downtown and outside the Community Recreation Center. The Town may also designate temporary Dismount Zones for special events, such as the Farmers Market.

Please watch for the signs, slow down, and walk your wheels through posted Dismount Zones.
