Red Flag Warning Issued for North Bay Interior Mountains; Potential PG&E Power Shutoffs May Affect Portions of Sonoma County. What is a Red Flag Warning?

A Red Flag Warning is the National Weather Service’s highest fire weather alert. It is issued when weather conditions are favorable for the rapid growth and spread of wildfires.

For this event, forecasters are expecting strong winds, very low humidity, and dry vegetation in the warning area. These conditions can cause fires to start easily and spread quickly.

Walmart Foot Pursuit Leads to Recovery of Concealed Butcher Knife and Juvenile Arrest

On Thursday, June 4, 2026, at approximately 9:43 a.m., Windsor Police deputies conducted a consensual encounter with two juveniles in the Walmart parking lot at 6650 Hembree Lane after observing one of the juveniles acting suspiciously.

The juvenile advised that he was on active misdemeanor probation. While awaiting a records check, the juvenile began displaying nervous behavior and repeatedly pulling down his sweatshirt. When asked if he was in possession of a firearm, he denied it. A deputy then directed him to lift the front of his shirt, revealing the hilt of a large knife concealed in his waistband. The juvenile immediately fled on foot.

A lengthy foot pursuit ensued throughout the Walmart and Home Depot parking lots. During the pursuit, the juvenile disregarded multiple commands to stop. Deputies heard the sound of metal hitting concrete near a shopping cart return kiosk. The juvenile ran north around a loading dock area, then south back toward Walmart, entering the store's east entrance. Inside the store, the juvenile attempted to flee again by jumping over a row of shopping carts before a deputy confronted him.

The juvenile complied and was taken into custody without further incident. A large 8-inch-bladed Cuisinart butcher knife, which had been discarded during the pursuit, was later recovered by a Walmart employee and booked into evidence.
The juvenile was arrested and transported to the Los Guilicos Juvenile Justice Center for Violation of Probation, Possession of a Concealed Dirk or Dagger, and Resisting/Obstructing a Peace Officer.

One deputy sustained minor injuries during the pursuit. The second juvenile was briefly detained but released after it was determined he was not involved in the crime.

The Windsor Police Department thanks the public for their vigilance and encourages anyone who observes suspicious activity to contact law enforcement immediately.

Windsor Police Arrest Driver for DUI and Child Endangerment During DUI Saturation Patrol

The Windsor Police Department arrested Erica Castellanos Magana on charges of driving under the influence and child endangerment following a traffic stop conducted late in the evening of May 30, 2026.

At approximately 11:00 p.m., a Windsor Police Department deputy observed a white Honda Accord traveling at a high rate of speed in the area of Windsor Road and Windsor River Road. A radar check indicated the vehicle was traveling 47 mph in a posted 30 mph zone.

The deputy initiated a traffic stop and, during contact with the driver, observed signs consistent with alcohol impairment, including bloodshot and watery eyes, slurred speech, and the odor of an alcoholic beverage. The driver admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages earlier in the day.

A DUI investigation was conducted, and based on the results, Castellanos Magana was arrested for driving under the influence.

Deputies determined that four juveniles, ranging in age from 9 to 12 years old, were passengers in the vehicle at the time of the stop. The juveniles were released to a responsible adult at the scene.

Castellanos Magana was subsequently booked into the Sonoma County Jail on the following charges:

• 23152(a) – Driving Under the Influence
• 273a(b) – Child Endangerment

This enforcement action occurred during a DUI Saturation Patrol conducted by the Windsor Police Department. The operation was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and focused on identifying and removing impaired drivers from local roadways.

The Windsor Police Department reminds motorists that impaired driving places everyone on the road at risk. Drivers who choose to consume alcohol should arrange for a sober ride home, use a rideshare service, or designate a sober driver.

This week, the Windsor Police Department joins law enforcement agencies across the nation in observing National Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Week. We pause to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their courage, dedication and commitment to protecting others will never be forgotten.

We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Shiloh Cemetery for once again going above and beyond to honor Sonoma County Sheriff's Office Deputy Merrit Deeds who was killed in the line of duty in 1975.

May we always remember the fallen, support those who continue to serve, and keep their families in our thoughts not only this week, but every day.

The Town of Windsor Police Department encourages the public to celebrate Cinco de Mayo responsibly by planning ahead and designating a sober driver.

“Don’t put yourself and others on the road at risk by driving impaired,” Chief Greg Piccinini said. “If you’re planning to celebrate with a drink or two, leave your keys at home and designate a sober driver.”

The Town of Windsor Police Department wants to remind the community that alcohol is not the only substance that can cause impairment. Prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, cannabis products and other drugs may also cause impairment. If you plan on drinking or taking medications with a driving warning label, let someone who is sober drive. If you see someone who appears to be driving while impaired, call 9-1-1.
