WINDSOR POLICE CHIEF APPOINTMENT

As the Town Manager of the Town of Windsor, I am pleased to announce that after a long and thorough process, Grafton Parker Jernigan has been appointed Chief of Police for the Town of Windsor.

Jernigan has been with the Town of Windsor since 2010, most recently serving as the Interim Chief of Police since July 2026. He has done an exceptional job in the role of Interim Chief since his appointment to that position.

I feel confident in Chief Jernigan’s ability to fill the role of Chief of Police and know that he will serve the Town of Windsor with honesty, integrity, and unwavering dedication.

RESIGNATION OF COUNCILMAN WALTER BERNACKI

The Town of Windsor regretfully reports that Councilman Walter Bernacki has resigned from the Windsor Town Council effective September 30, 2026.

Councilman Bernacki has served on the Windsor Town Council for the past nine and one-half years; his dedication to the Town and contributions to the benefit of the community are greatly appreciated and will be sorely missed. We wish Councilman Bernacki the best in his future endeavors.

In response to this vacancy on the Town Council, the Windsor Town Council is inviting qualified voters in the Town of Windsor who are interested in being appointed to fill this vacancy, to provide a cover letter and resume or talent bank form. Per the Town Charter, a vacancy on the Town Council shall be filled by appointment within 45 days of the vacancy.

Cover letters and resumes can be hand-delivered or mailed to the Town of Windsor, 8 E Windsor Boulevard, P. O. Box 307, Windsor, VA 23487 or emailed to [email protected].

For consideration, submissions must be received by 5 PM on Friday, October 9, 2026.

The county and our team at the Isle of Wight County Parks and Recreation department are excited to partner with the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia to bring a mobile pantry to Heritage Park.
